Best to Have a Sim card and cellular service
Yes, I really like my Travis. It Works "OK" over public wifi but even better over a private wifi. I suggest if you are going to or need to use it a lot "like I do", It is best to get a "sim Card" and purchase a data service from your cellular phone service compony.

Accurate but a bit slow (4+)
I was impressed with my Travis Touch on a trip I recently completed in Chile. Now, I have read that Chilean Spanish is noticeably different to other Spanish speakers. I, myself, do not speak Spanish, so I can't see personally whether this is the case, but Travis does have a drop down choice for Chilean Spanish. It translated my English well enough that everyone I used it with understood what I was saying. And I understood their replies to me which were translated back into English.First let me say I would like to give this a 4+ rating because, even using the sim card provided by Travis, the time lag between speaking my English comments to having Travis translate it into Spanish was delayed enough that the other party seemed a bit impatient waiting for the translation. (I was able to compare this to Google Translate which can translate online almost immediately.) But, according to the Spanish speakers I used this with, they said the translation was very accurate. So accuracy is very good but time lag is a bit slow.I did do this trial test myself. I said a fairly complicated message in English using Google Translate to put it into Spanish. I then had my Travis listen to that Spanish translation from Google Translate and had my Travis translate that Spanish back into English. So I knew what I said at first and listened to hear if that is what I got back into this sort-of two way translation. Well, it was 100% accurate. It me gave confidence that I could use either Google Translate or my Travis depending on what my connection was to the internet or cellular data.I would recommend this device for those travelling to countries where they do not speak the language and may not frequently be in a wi-fi location to fully use Google Translate online. I can say, though, that because I use T-Mobile as my provider, I was able to use the included data via T-Mobile's international partner in Chile to use my Google Translate almost everywhere in Chile to access Google Translate online, rather than as an off-line device after downloading the Spanish language data onto my smart phone. The Travis Touch is easy to hold, the buttons are easy to access, it kept it charged for two weeks after only one full charge, and I liked the way the screen provided me with information.

Impressed with translation
Love this little gadget! I was especially impressed with the ability to translate Mandarin with the correct syntax. Selected this over others because it comes with a 1GB global SIM card which will be extra handy and easy for our upcoming international travels. Bought it originally for trips, but now I can think of a million other way to use this with my family and friends!

Love the Hot Spot Feature
Have not used it in real situation yet. But I did try out. It is really nice. You can talk for quite a few sentences all at once, and it remembered and translated all of them correctly. Although I only knew a couple of languages that I can verify. Also tried out the global data SIM card and hot spot. They all worked out nicely as advertised.

Feels well made, so far, about 90% accurate.
I’m traveling to Vietnam soon with my wife (Vietnamese), have never learned the language as it is very difficult for me. This will be very useful talking with her family and friends. I have tried it with my wife and she says it’s pretty accurate. Also, in the description, I guess I missed where it said SIM card only good for 1 year after activation. I was under the impression it was a lifetime. There’s one more translator out there that “is” for a lifetime but it will not speak the Vietnamese translation. This one does. Oh, and very easy to set up, just follow on screen instructions.

Over all, a good purchase
I recently used this on a trip to the country of Georgia. While most young people there do speak English, this was a life-saver. In contrast, Google Translate doesn't speak Georgian. I will say that the power button too easily turns the device on, if it's in your pocket. I wish there was a feature on it to detect the language being spoken. Otherwise, it can be a guessing game to select the target language. There is also no "conversation mode" as Google Translate does that automatically just pauses and waits for anyone to speak, detecting the language spoken, then translating to the other language, on the fly. It would also be a great idea for this device to present a phonetic version of the translated speech as Google Translate does. That way, you can practice speaking the foreign language yourself (a great way to learn). The touch screen is too flaky/small to be very useful. It was too difficult to type in WiFi passwords. It worked well with a 1GB SIM card from a local Georgian carrier with good coverage, for a single-week trip. I doubt I used much data. Not every language has a human-sounding voice. Most popular languages did, though. The rest had to be rendered with computer-generated speech, which was very hard for people to understand. People were generally confused as to when to speak into the device. When they did get the hang of it, though, it was a very surprising, pleasant, and productive experience for them. Whatever you do, make SURE you update the firmware on this device, before trying to use it in the field. Over all, I'd have to say that this is a nice alternative to using your phone and in some cases superior to common alternatives like Google Translate. I am happy with my purchase.
