From the Label Another fun- and hit-filled live set from Ringo, this time with the guitar-filled '92 lineup of the All-Starr Band: Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, Dave Edmunds, Todd Rundgren, Nils Lofgren, Burton Cummings, Tim Capello, and Zak Starkey. From the ""Really Serious" Introduction" by Quincy Jones all the way to long-awaited live finale of "With A Little Help From My Friends" this album captures the high-energy celebration of one of that year's most successful tours. As on Ringo's previous live album, he shares the spotlight with the stellar talent in his band. This time the highlights include Schmit doing his trademark Eagles number "I Can't Tell You Why"; Edmunds rocking out on "Girls Talk," Rundgren reaching into his solo catalogue for "Bang the Drum All Day," and Cummings leading the definitive version of the Guess Who's greatest hit, "American Woman." As for the genial bandleader, Ringo performs songs ranging from "Don't Go Where The Road Don't Go" -- a rocking ode to his newly-sober lifestyle, taken from his 1992 album TIME TAKES TIME -- to the rock'n'roll oldie "Boys," once a favorite Beatles cover and here performed by the All-Starrs in vintage, garage-band style.

Great Live Performance By Sir Richard Starkey, MBE
Since his generally Ho-Hum years of the 80's, Sir Richard has come out with some solid performances: "Vertical Man," "VH1 Story Tellers," "I Wanna Be Santa Claus," and this gem. Honestly, Ringo should have done this a lot earlier in his career. Without a doubt, he would have made a killing. But, then again, better late than never. On this live performance -- one of the most successful in the 1990's -- Ringo is joined by some of the best in the business: Joe Walsh, Burton Cummings, Dave Edmunds, etc. The music on this live performance is electrically solid. This is a good, old-fashioned concert. . . . good music and loads of fun. The "Star(r)s" really enjoyed themselves on-stage. This contributed to the excitement, high energy, and enjoyment of this highly successful tour. I guarantee that your ears will be glued to your system -- from the "Really Serious Introduction" to the "WALHFMF" Grand Finale. Without a single doubt, Ringo and his "All Stars" never sounded better. I only regret that I wasn't there to see this live and in person (of course, being stationed in Korea has its limitations). This CD is well worth owning. It is simply GREAT.Terrific Music. . . . High Energy. . . . . Loads of fun. Where can you go wrong. Buy it today!!!!

Strong ***
Highlights are from Todd Rundgren, Dave Edmunds, Burton Cummings and Ringo on just rwo songs, "I'm The Greatrest" and "Don't Go Where The Road Don't Go", a sure-fire shoulda-been Top 40 Rocker.Yes, the band is superb, but strangely can't rescue some tired vocals from the Starr himself, doing drunk Brother-In-Law at the barbeque renditions of legendary tunes.

RING O' RECORDS
RINGO STARR & HIS ALL STARR BAND-LIVE FROM MONTREUX: The second lineup of Ringo's traveling circus of oldies legends was almost equal to the first, retaining six stringers Joe Walsh and Nils Lofgren while adding Rockabilly rebel Dave Edmunds and instrumental virtuoso Todd Rundgren. Guess Who frontman Burton Cummings and Walsh's fellow Eagle Tim Schmit rounded out the group, which spit out their signature hits along with Starkey's own as a solo star and a former Beatle. It's hard to gripe about a show that includes the radio staples Yellow Submarine, Girls Talk, and American Woman, not to mention deeper delights like Rundgren's Black Maria and Lofgren's twitchy Walking Nerve...a giant jukebox of rock, pop, and kitschy nostalgia. Add in Walsh croaking out Desperado (an Eagles gem he wasn't even a part of) AND The Warriors soundtrack smash In the City, plus Ringo's too seldom heard I'm the Greatest and you've got a set that's not as safe or obvious as it could have been. That, and the one time only assemblage of enthusiastic players make Live in Montreux well worth checking out.RATING: FOUR PEACE AND LOVES
