## Overview

Milliput Medium Fine Black is a 2-part self-hardening epoxy putty that cures rock hard in 3-4 hours at room temperature. With a long shelf life of up to 2 years, it bonds to a wide range of materials including wood, metal, plastic, and glass. Once cured, it can be machined, drilled, sanded, and painted, making it ideal for durable repairs, modeling, and finishing tasks.

## Description

Milliput Black 2-part epoxy putty, consists of 2 x 56.7gm (2 oz.) sticks. Long shelf life (approximately 2 years if stored in cool, dry condition), once toughly mixed in equal parts the resultant putty is soft and highly adhesive then gradually hardens. Speed of hardening is dependent on temperature - at normal temperatures (20-25 degrees C) becomes rock hard in 3-4 hours. Putty is fully cured in 6-8 hours at same temperature and can then be machined, drilled, tapped, turned, filed, sawn, sandpapered and painted. Will bond: wood, brick, cement, metals, concrete, plastics, glass etc. - not intended as a thin layer adhesive. May cause irritation to sensitive skin; it is advisable to use rubber or polythene gloves when handling non-hardened product.

Review: Nice - I have a set of pans that are about 20 years old. The handle of the pans is a sort of fibery plastic material. The heat from the stove burners degrades the handles where they meet the metal pan. This epoxy putty filled the damage in nicely. It becomes rock hard after it cures. I could sand it down to be more flush with the handle but you don't even see the epoxy when using the pans normally so I left it built up. I think having more material built up at that part of the handle is probably a good thing in this case.
Review: Quick delivery - I got this pretty quickly. I needed it for a repair project on some wood. I've been using the stuff for years, and it's just fantastic. It takes a little effort to make sure it's fully mixed up, so follow the instructions on the box. And when you're done with it, don't just wrap it back up in the plastic. It's best if you wrap them separately in their plastic, then put it in a Ziploc bag to help preserve the life. Works great for modeling, as well as filling gaps and wood or plastic and it bonds well. I prefer using this over liquid epoxies and most cases. I've never tried using a metal, so I can't say how well it bonds on that.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: what color does it dry**
A: itdries black but when you sand it it turns grey. But a little polishing or clear coat brings it back to black. We used it to fill in missing pieces from an old Bakelite clock case and it blended with the black very well and has held up.

**Q: Do you really need to use gloves? Or is that just a suggestion?**
A: No gloves. I've done 10+ hours of modeling with this and haven't used gloves. I limit each session to about 40-50 minutes of modeling and then use warm water and dish soap to clean off my fingertips and any tools I use. Keeping fingertips slightly moist with plain water will help from it sticking to your skin, and help keep the milliput more malleable. It doesn't mean you shouldn't wear gloves though.

**Q: does it dry shiny or matte?**
A: It dries to the same finish and color of mixed clay and hardener. Definately more of a matte finish. I have used this material to repair plastic covering my Blazers tailgate door and to rebuild the hinge area of Dog Door. Be aware that cureing takes up to 5 or 6 hours. I found it best to let lt set over night and then machine or sand critical dimensions. Hope.this helps.Rit in the Northwest Hills of Connecticut.

**Q: I have a BMW motorcycle hard, smooth surfaced, black saddlebag with some tipover scratches I'd like to fill in. Would this work?**
A: As a beemer owner myself (R1200RT), I'd probably recommend against Milliput for that (opting for sandpaper, primer, paint, clearcoat instead). If you have deep gouges you could probably use this to fill it in, but you'll still need to primer, paint and polish/clearcoat because after you sand it down to match the contour, the milliput will be a dull grey. I may also opt for Bondo Spot Putty for a gouge instead. Actually, if there's a gouge that really needs that kind of work, I'd just replace the plastic outer-shell (much lower time-cost).

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Milliput black epoxy putty review
*by T***P on October 30, 2010*

I just came from the workshop where I was using the Milliput epoxy putty in black. Mixing is easy using equal parts of the two "Tootsie Rolls". Just knead a pinch from each in the amount needed. The application for me was to fill in some worm holes and cracks that were in some spalted maple boards. For my purposes, the material has to have certain qualities; hold fast in the voids, sand flat easily, not shrink, have no plastic or metallic look, and because it was going into spalted maple having black lines through it, be black. Milliput scored 100 per cent on each of these tests. After sanding it flat with the board, the material became a bit more gray than I wanted. However, after wetting it it, the black color I wanted came back immediately. Milliput has a great product in this epoxy.
