This book is a textbook. As such, it is targeted to those who wish to learn a comprehensive approach to Performance Management. And, the book does this very well with a highly logical research based approach. After an introductory overview of the topic, the book starts with the very basics, even defining the word "performance". The book then provides the performance management process, and in depth coverage of each step of the process and the considerations and tradeoffs of various component choices. Each chapter concludes with exercises and case studies, and encourages the reader to practice what has been learned. Performance Management of teams is also covered. The book ends with a coverage of considerations for implementation, rewards, and legal issues.As dense in valuable content delivered in surprisingly few pages, the book is a relatively enjoyable read Dr. Aguinis style is easy to understand, well organized, and at times even humorous.Students, HR or Consulting professionals will find this book to be worth it's weight in platinum. What I have learned from this book I have already been able to put to work. And, as a person who was not thought of as an HR subject matter expert, I have raised some eyebrows as to my insight on the topic.

This book is a great handbook that almost covers all the areas that could be needed for a performance management class or for those designing a performance management system for the organization. During my MBA thesis i purchased at least 5 books on Performance Management. This was by far the best.
