I bought these on whim cause they were offering a discount coupon and I'm very happy that I did so! They are quite unique like the velvet paintings from years ago. There is a good variety of pictures and I will be purchasing more just because they are so different from the regular, huge stock of coloring books I have.The packaging is lightweight cardboard with a cardboard insert inside the pages for stability. They are also enclosed in a plastic sleeve.I'm using inexpensive gel/glitter pens (that are really fantastic for the price) and yes, some darker colors bleed through a bit, others not at all. The velvet helps me stay inside the lines, big plus in my opinion. I'm sure you'd be fine with colored pencils if that's an issue for you. I always use a cardboard backing so I don't mar my desk or other surfaces.I'm even gonna try watercolors cause experimenting is fun and I'd like to see if I can make them look as the paintings did.I do wish they were in a larger, ziptop bag for storage but that is an easy remedy.

The paper is a little thin so best to use regular Crayola markers that won't bleed

I love these! Aside from the aesthetic, I have two daughters with autism. The raised black portions help them learn to color between the lines, improving their fine motor control. The feel of the velvet and the contrast with the markers also makes it a bit of a sensory toy. All around awesome product, and I will buy these again.
