## Overview

This book offers a unique, practical approach to learning control system design by combining affordable Arduino hardware with MATLAB/Simulink software. It guides readers through hands-on experiments—from motor control to ball & beam setups—enabling a deep understanding of modern control theory and embedded system implementation.

## Description

This is the basic for those who starting to learn about control system design. The content of the book is unique in the sense that control system design can be studied through practical experience by using an inexpensive control experimental kit based on recently popular open source Arduino hardware. By purchasing a low cost experimental kit and using the contents of this book, it is possible for the reader to actually create their own controlled object with electrical circuits and mechanical structure, and experience controlling it by using their own controllers. As opposed to most conventional theory books, which only explain theory and describe the process of implementing it on an embedded system, the basics of control theory and model-based development can be learned through real experiment from this unique book. -Contents- Chapter 1 Introduction Chapter 2 Getting Ready Chapter 3 Using ArduinoIO Chapter 4 Motor Speed Control Chapter 5 Motor Position Control Chapter 6 Ball&Beam Experiments Chapter 7 Using Modern Control Theory Chapter 8 Run on Target Hardware A Asembly Ball & Beam Kit

Review: Excelent! - Excelent!
Review: Very useful but needs an update - The good: This book leads you through connecting Matlab/Simulink to the Arduino and presents a number of interesting examples. Along the way you will likely learn some control theory and practice. Background: I'm an experienced microcontroller guy, but I'm new to Simulink and find it rather daunting. This book definitely helped me climb the learning curve on this very sophisticated software. I'm about halfway through the book now so I may update this review later. The bad: - The book is out of date, and the references to websites are mostly for the Japanese versions. So all the install procedures and so on are a little different than what is written. I was able to get through it, but it was not completely smooth. - I was not able to find and download the example programs using the links in the book. Re-creating them myself may have been educational but it was also frustrating.
