Ridiculously good sound
I've been using this headset for just shy of 3 weeks now and I feel I have a pretty good handle on it's strengths and weaknesses by now:STRENGTHS- Audio quality is superb, I can not underline this enough- Bass boost delivers and then some- Incredibly comfortable- Speakers go up to incredibly high volumesWEAKNESSES- Microphone is terrible- Rigid cable and heavy control module- The yellow plastic is a bit tackyThis is a bit of a marmite product, you'll either love the strengths it brings or despise its shortcomings. Personally I fall into the former category, I think these headphones are great for my purposes but I feel obliged to knock a star off because I can't in all good conscience call this a perfect product, despite the incredible sound which I'm at pains to emphasise.I've developed a habit over the years of using my headset almost like a speaker by leaving them lying on the bed or desk at max volume, I've even gone to the effort of installing an equaliser digitally boost the volume beyond windows' output. The software I use for it is a brilliant bit of freeware btw, for anybody interested google "PEACE equaliser".Proceed with caution doing that for this set though because it will occasionally clash with the digital 7.1 surround card built into the control unit, resulting in awful, mangled noises. But honestly this headset needs no boosting, I was already impressed with their volume but once I figured out why this sound clash was happening and turned the EQ software off they got even louder! I'd say this is the best set of headphones I've used like this. Do not wear them at max volume because you will deafen yourself. I've since tested the EQ software again and it seems to cooperate as long as I don't touch the software's volume sliders and keep clip-prevention on, so if you're an audiophile you needn't worry about the sound card overruling your carefully crafted slider settings. As for the sound quality, it's incredible for the cost. Unbelievable. In the past couple of weeks I've heard cute little flourishes that I'd never noticed before in songs I've listened to hundreds of times over the years and thought I knew inside out. I'm stunned by just how good the sound quality is, they do not sound like a £50 headset. The bass boost is a fantastic feature too, ramping up the bass output to 11. One slight issue is just how much it makes the set vibrate though, it's awesome when you're listening to something heavy and can feel them going off in rhythm with the music but a bit distracting when you're trying to game or stream a show, handily they put a switch for it on the control unit.Oh and putting these on your head is something else. I've never worn such a comfortable pair of headphones, they just sort of float gently around your ears, it's quite the sensation. All that said, the microphone is terrible so don't get these if your main purpose is joining voice chat in games, you'll just annoy everybody with all the background fuzz. That said I've never used a headset within this price range which does have a decent mic and I don't use it much anyway so it's not a big deal for me, I just leave it permanently twisted out of the way and honestly the sound quality of the speakers is so good that if I ever find myself needing a mic on the regular I'll just get a standalone instead of investing in a new set.A minor gripe this next one, but I'm not a fan of the thick, yellow plastic coating on the cable and support bars (a yellow/black braiding would have been dope though). By contrast I do like the soft velvety feel on the plastic they use for the phones and control unit even if you can tell it's quite cheap stuff. The control unit is a bit awkwardly bulky too, though I suppose that's largely enforced by the sound card. Overall the impression I get is that costs were cut wherever possible to focus on delivering audio quality and comfort above and beyond its price point, I'm fine with that if so, somebody who wanted to use voice chat probably won't be.Tl; dr: Give it a braided cable, a fit-for-purpose microphone and some sturdier casing and I'd be happy to pay considerably more for than £50 for this set. Speakers of a more expensive set but the mic of a far cheaper one. If audio is your priority and don't mind the drawbacks I've mentioned then this headset is a real diamond in the rough.
