Hi,This is my first book I've tried in the images of war series.A good book and interesting, though one I feel would suit the more Ardent reader/WW2 buff ...I'm admittedly a casual in the area and in retrospect have found other vols more compelling to try first.The pictures of course are quite amazing, bringing back people now long gone in many ways - troops in very candid mode, in action, traversing their way across Russsia etc they are quite clear and with many looking at the camera it offers an intimacy and encounter that is quite startling when your used to seeing old films.Some of the photo's look like they could be taken tomorrow!!The text backs each photo super well, letting you know what equipment is being used etc.It also gives some context of the (always mind blowing) losses suffered by sides along the way ...However, perhaps mercifully, you don't get many aftermath photos and rarely see any dead Russians/Germans anywhere.Which is a letdown imo as it is after all a photo book!!Perhaps, I'm kidding myself by not completely understanding the books title??Waffen on Eastern front?Yes, it is that.So overall I found the book to be okay and worthwhile, a good subsidiary for watching other WW2 docs or reading other books around the subject.I went for the Kindle edition and it worked really well, no problem zooming in and moving around on the pics - it works really well.So in the end, if your newer and want spectacular maybe search out another book about Barbarossa, if your an SS nut sure you'll love the book.Thank you.

Does exactly what it says on the tin. The book has lots of photographs of the SS in action. Not too many in colour, but it's still worth a look if you're interested in the SS.

great book for wss colectors

I've not seen most of the photos in this book; a book I recall from Concord Publications Waffen ss in Russia # 6535 has only a few of the same photos. Therefore, I'd highly recommend this book just for that reason.

Il libro contiene solo tante importanti foto d'archivio ma manca completamente di riflessioni di carattere storico,consigliabile per coloro che vogliono avere un'impressione sui vari tipi di armamenti e divise utilizzate nel fronte russo.

Great and the same time depressed tale of the exploits of the SS at the eastern front, the brutality and savagery are in pair of the resilience and gallantry in combat of the SS units are very difficult to digest. The final demise of several units were also depressing, but the way that the SS units treat the prisoners allow me to say what comes around goes around….all in all the perspective of the story is well accompanied by photos.
