An Already Completed Franchise Returning to Anime?
The fourth season of the Full Metal Panic franchise came out of no where. At least for me. The story as far as the manga goes has been long since completed and the show hasn't been on air for over ten years. I found out at random about the fourth season because while this is a widely known franchise, not too many people talk about it like Gundam. I'm glad the studio made this entry. This was my first mecha anime and it was a delight years ago so this was a very unexpected treat. Most of the English voice actors have returned to reprise their roles which plays on the nostalgia extremely well. There are a few exceptions, notably the character Andrei Sergeivich Kalinin whose voice actor who had a very deep distinctive voice has been regrettably replaced. Sad, but this is only the real noticeable replacement. And its been ten something years. Getting everyone back after all this time must have been quite the undertaking. This season picks up right where the last season left off as if no time lapse has happened. The visual style is the same apart from modern cleanup. More CGI where needed for the action scenes, and minor visual details no longer in style have been removed. Most notable example: Kaname Chidori's cheek markings. The studio even reused the same soundtrack from the previous seasons which also plays on nostalgia. Even the ending cut theme song 'Tomorrow' by Yumiko used as the first season's opening was brought back in the last episode. You can take this as a good or bad thing but the ending to this season is really left incomplete. The way it ends implies that another season is bound to be picked up to complete this story arc. Granted, anime is no stranger to leaving stories unfinished but Full Metal Panic has been dead for awhile.Gone is the silliness and playfulness of the soldier Sousuke Sagara being a fish out of the water trying to attend high school. The high school scene is done and over with here. This installment plays the serious tone of the third season as it is all out war between factions. Sousuke Sagara and Kaname Chidori have progressed in their relationship but are still taking slow steps forward together. The charm of their interacting is cut short as the two are separated largely throughout the story. This expensive package comes with Blu-ray, DVD, and a digital copy code. English dubbed and subbed. There is also a special audio drama CD only in Japanese with a English translation book to follow along with. Plays like any other episode, sound effects and all. Then there is a small artwork book of characters and mechas as a nice little addition for the fans.I hope this season was a success for the studio for them to continue with this. I've been a long time fan of Full Metal Panic and hope this is used as an example for resurrecting other franchises long overdue in anime story completion. Here's hoping, right?

Doesn't feel like FMP
If you haven't seen FMP seasons 1-3 then I would rate this 3/5. Its not bad but its not great. The original FMP was the firs anime I bought for myself. In high school I saved up all my money to buy the dvd's as they came out. I love all three season. They were a good mix of action, seriousness, comedy, and a touch of romance. The comedy was goofy and balanced well with the action. They showed that people died in combat without making it dark and gory. Every season ended and you had closure. There was still room for more story, but you didn't need it.This season doesn't have that balance. The comedy is cheesy. The romance feels forced and out of place. They put an emphasis on death and innocence dying that makes the show dark and uneasy. There were so many times that I spoke out saying WTF or something similar because it was so cheesy. It wouldn't have surprise me if Steven Seagal was seen flying one of the stealth helicopters. Some of the animation is messed up. (yes I'm nit picking on this one, but I noticed it and went back to make sense of what I saw) At one point Sousuke is running while side lit with a long shadow and you have a birds eye view of this. His shadow didn't match his movement. The shadow was of him at full stride and bounced along with him. The legs of the shadow didn't move. If they were running short on time they could of just done an elongated oval and it wouldn't have been a noticeable. Another time he was jumping over a log and he didn't clear the top of it, He just clipped right threw it.SPOILER kindaThe ending to this season was a big cliffhanger. It tried to leave it in a good state, but failed. Ever other season ended and you just knew that the people were going to be doing more of there day to day operations.

One of the best anime series of this time in a great package.
First of all, if you liked the original Love Live anime you'll love Sunshine, if you like cute waifus you'll love Sunshine, if you like J-Pop and idols genres you'll love Sunshine, and, most important, if you like nice and memorable animes you'll love Sunshine.About the package, the quality of the product offered by Funimation is excellent, worth every dollar it cost. The translation of subtitles is very good, totally superb to the disaster made by NIS America with the original Love Live blu-rays. The video quality is excellent and the extras, although discreet, are acceptable. And finally, the anime came to Mexico City very fast and in impeccable condition. I'm very satisfied with the efficiency of Amazon international shipments.

It's only half a story
It ends on a cliffhanger. The action is good. There are some surprise events. I really hope they finish the story. It's finished in the Manga, but the anime isn't even in production yet. It's pretty intense. If you liked the original and Second Raid, this one ratchets it up a notch.

Love the franchise
I really enjoy all of the Full Metal Panic anime series and own all of them. I went for the limited edition on this season, which includes an art box, art book, short novel and a few other things. I would have liked a nice cloth poster or a figure or two. The episodes are a nice follow up from The Second Raid, taking place some time afterwards.I look forward to the continuation, as the season ends with a cliffhanger. Like the first season and TSR, this season concentrates on the mech action, but has enough stories in the school. The classmates and the crew of the de Danaan have some good scenes, so it's not just Sagara and Chidori. There are plenty of repercussions to be resolved. I can't wait.
