A useful go-between!
I recently replaced a worn-out DVD player and a CD writer with a new Sony box able to play most current disc media. Trouble is, it only has HDMI outputs and a coax output socket, but not the individual 5.1 speaker outputs that my old DVD player had. Meant I couldn’t get the great 6 channel surround sound my amp can deliver. This little box takes the coax input and ports it to the six speakers, and does it beautifully. It’s easy to set up - worth noting it needs its own power socket - but after that, it’s basically a bit of hit and miss with the buttons until you find what works for your system. There’s a manual, completely in japanese, and a leaflet in english, in tiny print. I had my unit up and running in just a few minutes from unpacking it.There are several pretty much identical boxes on sale through Amazon, and the need to fiddle with the buttons is a common feature mentioned in reviews. Some reviews mention a little bit of hiss when the box is in use. It’s not too much of a problem on my set-up at the volumes I tend to play music at. I’m pleased with the box, even if delivery wasn’t all that fast.
