Very porous, it leaks, but grinds fine
A molcajete is supposed to be able to work as a bowl. It should be able to hold salsa, guacamole, and pretty much anything. This one leaks. The rock is too porous.I tested it fresh out of the box and noticed that the stone was very porous, more so than I'm used to seeing. Checking it with water, it leaked. I figured the curing process (outlined in one of the pictures attached) would seal up the holes, with garlic or onion or charred oil or rock dust, or some combination of the those. I've done all the curing methods, and it still leaks, considerably. The amount of garlic it would require to seal up all the holes is ridiculous: head and a half went literally into it, and it didn't plug all the holes. And my apartment smells like I macerated head and half of garlic...The cut is well done, and there are no obvious errors in, or issues with, the craftsmanship. However the stone itself is too porous for this to work as a proper molcajete. It does a fine job grinding stuff, but any liquid will seep through the stone. I really wanted to make it work, but this stone is just not good enough. As a side note, the instructions are comically incomplete (see attached), with a line that says "bake it for 30 minutes at degrees so [...]". Unclear how many degrees, or what unit those might be.Grinding with it would probably be fine, but there are so many cavities, cleaning it would be nigh impossible. Maybe one could leave it through an oven's self-clean cycle..? Can't get hotter than a volcano...

Disappointing.
I agree with the first reviewer who said it was too porous. I know how to season them properly, so that was not the problem here. When I ground dry white rice to season it, the rice got stuck in all the divers. I doubt I’ll use it very much. I previously bought this one: Made in Mexico Genuine Mexican Manual Guacamole Salsa Maker Volcanic...Made in Mexico Genuine Mexican Manual and I loved it but have it to a friend after she remarked on it. Wish I had bought same one.
