Perfect Learning tool for budding chefs!
I purchased this cook book for my preteen who loves to help out in the kitchen. She needs just a little extra explanation and guidance than some. This book has 2 chapters on cooking basics that were very helpful.Chapter 1 discussed basic cooking terms with definitions.Example "Braise: to cook food slowly in a small amount of liquid in a tightly covered pan on the stove"Chapter 2 discusses many tools in the kitchen, how to tell when veggies or fruit are ripe, basic pantry items, kitchen safety, and meat cooking temperatures. This is where the recipes begin.Chapter 3: Breakfast recipesChapter 4: SnacksChapter 5: Salads & SoupsChapter 6: Dinner for 1Chapter 7: Dinner for EveryoneChapter 8: Dessert (her favorite!)Here is a recipe taken from the dessert chapterFruity Frozen YogurtServes 3-42 overripe bananas, peeled, thinly slices, frozen2 cups chopped frozen peaches1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract1/3 cup plain yogurt1. Place the frozen bananas and peaches in an unplugged food processor. Plug in the machine and process the fruit until smooth.2. Turn off the machine and add the vanilla and yogurt; process again until thoroughly mixed. Unplug the machine and scoop the fruit-yogurt mixture into bowls. The last section is the appendix which includes measurements & metric cooking conversions. As you can see, the recipes are PERFECT for beginning chefs. It gives them details other cook books do not. I feel safe letting her free in the kitchen while using this book. How many other books remind you to unplug your machine?I definitely recommend this book for your budding chef!!!

Surprising Little Tome.
Our oldest daughter is in that difficult age between being old enough to handle responsibility but still needing a lot of direction. Her desire to help in the kitchen is awesome but unfortunately she does not like to have to ask us every 3 minutes what to do and how to do it. More than once we have started a cooking project with the best of intentions but ended up scraping it due to a frustration during the explanation process. I guess I don't speak teen girl very well. We got The Cookbook for Teens for her and since then she has not only surprised us by following through on a few meals, but is also surprisingly eager to engage with us in the kitchen to show off her new found knowledge. I guess it is really no surprise that she tried recipes from the dessert section first, but they were tasty! Not a week has passed since we picked this book up where my daughter hasn't surprised us on Friday afternoon with a fresh batch of the Luscious Lemon Bars (great recipe). None have ever seen Sunday morning :) Now if only they had a guide as simple to understand as this cookbook about the importance of teens eating salad. Both my wife and I were surprised to discover how convenient the conversion charts in the back have become. Great recipes and the reference section in the beginning is quite useful! Glad we picked this up for her.

Great recipe book, not only for teenagers!
The Cookbook for Teens: The Easy Teen Cookbook with 74 Fun & Delicious Recipes to try is geared toward preparing teenagers to learn the art of cooking, to ultimately prepare them for cooking for themselves once they’ve left home for the first time. The best part of the book is that it breaks down cooking techniques and terms (e.g. braise, knead, and grate) so that it’s applicable to the average teenager’s skill level and teaches them the art of bargain grocery shopping. Because cooking can be confusing beginners, the book aims to instruct people on choosing great recipes, and buying the most appropriate ingredients for meal planning. In addition, the book goes into full detail on how to make the kitchen’s ‘one’s own’ by stocking it with proper tools (e.g. can opener, bottle opener, grater, mesh sieve, and colander). Finally, the book illustrates easy-to-follow a variety of 74 recipes broken into breakfast foods, snacks, salads and soups, dinner plans for one person, dinner plans for a family, and desserts. Verdict: The Cookbook for Teens: The Easy Teen Cookbook with 74 Fun & Delicious Recipes to try is a must-have because it gives teenagers and/or any reader 74 recipes tailored toward simplicity and different individuals’ palates that are fun to make and healthful.

Start Here!
Everybody has to begin somewhere when learning to cook. Either you love cooking or you don't. What a better way to get started then with The Easy Teen Cookbook? Not only are the recipes in this cookbook easy to follow but they are healthy and not expensive. It teaches reading, following directions, and organization. Quite a teaching tool! Not to mention the satisfaction of having accomplished a task. This cookbook provides easy reading and also comes with cooking terms that provide definitions. The recipes/foods are teen friendly. While it is more of a beginner's cookbook, it has super potential to lead a passionate cook down the path to chef. There are easy recipes, complete meals recipes, cooking definitions, safety tips, tools needed. Heck, I found it helpful and I've been cooking for 45 years! I had my 10 year old granddaughter try this book out with me and she prepared several of the more basic recipes. She loved it! Then I had my 18 year old grandson test it and he rather enjoyed following through on a couple of the recipes. The dessert section was a big hit with both of the kids but the look of pride on their faces when they served the family, was priceless. Overall, this book is a great beginners book but it also shows kids/teens that eating healthy isn't all that bad.

Good recipes but US based
Good recipes in here and will be useful but recipes are US based not UK so will need some translation for my term when I wanted her to develop her skills and become more independent in her cooking.

American book
Very disappointed that this is an American book sold to the UK market. I guarantee this won’t be used by my teen to cook as he won’t look up the weight needed for a cup of everything.

Pictures
Very informative for a beginner. Shame no pictures makes it a bit boring at first glance. Easy to follow though.
