Whittier High Polymer Weighted Chess Pieces with 3.75 Inch King and Extra Queens, Pieces Only, No Board

Really an excellent set for the money. Strengths are the classic, elegant shape of the pieces, excellent proportions between them, wonderful weighted feel, and the nice clink the polymer pieces make when they knock against each other too. Weaknesses: the point of classic-shaped pieces is that they’re undistracting to play with; here the wood grain effect is a bit distracting, (oddly) more so for the dark pieces than the light, as the grain contrast seems more pronounced. There are a few flaws where the grain, probably printed onto some sort of flat film, encounters sharp edges on the pieces (see second photo).Other reviews have claimed a greenish tint to the light pieces. I’m certain that is a lighting artifact — in my photos they’re under daylight-color-temperature light, and look normal. (I do think a set in black and this light wood color would be even nicer.)

For the money a nice chess set. I would like them to be a bit heavier, but that may be more a personal preference than a flaw with the pieces. The felt on all pieces is firmly attached. The finish is good. And they are weighted enough that they stay upright even if accidentally bumped.As I have re-read my review I’ll upgrade by rating from four to five stars

High Quality and love the weight

...but the appearance is unique and a quite good simulation. If you prefer 2" vs 2.25" chess board squares, and a board smaller that 20 x 20," this set could be ok for you.

I DO WANT TO SAY THAT A LOT OF REVIEWERS COMMENT OF THE FACT THAT THESE LIKE PLASTIC PIECES...NEW ALERT: THEY ARE AND COMPANY SAYS THAT CLEARLY. THE "BLACKS" (BROWN SIMULATED WOOD) LOOK VERY NICE. THE "WHITES" THOUGH ARE A COLOR REMINISCENT OF WHAT ONE FINDS IN A BABY'S DIAPER. SICKLY GREENISH TAN. I FIND THEM HUMOROUS BUT SOME OF YOU PAYING SO MUCH FOR THEM MAY NOT. THE COLOR DOES NOT COME OUT ON THE PICTURES WELL. BE AWARE

Great set of chess pieces. Heavyweight plastic with just enough simulated grain to be distinctive. Colors match my 17 inch mahogany chessboard perfectly.

The knight and rook and color are different from picture. Not weighted. Everything Is false. $12 set being sold for $76. DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK.

White pieces have a decidedly green hue. These really don’t look like wood, especially in their color, and the attempt to make it look like wood makes it less desirable.Returned.
