Good quality fish paper.

Sometimes you need extra insulation to put stuff in a metal box. If you've never heard of fish paper, this is what you need. Thin, pretty stiff, resin-treated paper/cardboard that lets you not worry about whether the screws are too close to the box. Worked for my project and left me with more for the next one.

This is high-quality vulcanized cellulose fiber, also known as electrical insulating fish paper. Per the manufacturer's datasheet, this insulation has an electrical strength of 300 volts per mil of thickness and is 10 mil thick. Thus, it can be used for applications less than about 3000 volts.It comes in a compact, tightly-wound roll without a central core/tube. For planar applications, you'll have to unroll and flatten it. I clip a pants hanger to each shorter end and hang the paper from one end. Within 24 hours, it's flat enough for my applications. I use it as insulation between 120VAC circuit boards and metal cabinets that are 2mm away.This product does not come with adhesive pre-applied. Bring your own adhesive. The paper is semi-flexible and can be cut with a razor blade.

The “fish paper” was the perfect thickness and density to protect the enameled wire from contacting the steel frame when rewinding the fields on an electric motor. Cuts easily and forms nicely into stator frame. Made it possible for me to save an expensive oscillating sander motor that had toasted the start winding.

I’m still giving 5 stars because it was my fault for ordering the wrong thing. However, if you were expecting the back of the fish paper to be sticky this ain’t it chief.

Price is high on this. I found I can get 2, 12x12 sheets of G4 for less money..Thick.. Very hard to roll out since they are so tightly rolled up.. No adhesion.. Did not think there would be. But man, good luck getting this to stay put. Working with it is comical. So tightly wound up. Rolls back on you. Almost like a 3 stooges show. Now I know why Curly has no hair. He pulled it all out!!
