The Indians Nordchiles use the rainstick for rain ceremonies. The thorns of numb cactuses are beaten inside and the hollow body filled with little pebbles. A pleasant noise which reminds rain drumming to running water or evenly arises if the stones about the thorns trickle. The rain wright is turned like a sand-glass. The sound goes from the roaring of a cloudburst powerfully of the gentle drizzle. The longer the rain wright, all the long the sound. All the firmer the margin tic sounds the bigger the diameter. Particularly short rain wrights are suitable also as rhythm instruments.
