In One of Their Few Non-Clouseau Efforts, Director Blake Edwards (Victor Victoria) and Star Peter Sellers (What's New Pussycat?) Preserve the Spirit of the French Bumbler in the Person of Hrundi V. Bakshi, An Accident-Prone Indian Actor. Brought to Hollywood to Play the Title Role in Son of Gunga Din, Bakshi Destroys the Film's Most Elaborate Set with His Bungling and Is Banned from the Set By the Film's Producer. But Because of An Error By the Producer's Secretary, Bakshi's Name Is Added to the Guest List of His Next Party, An A-List Affair. Shortly After Arriving, Bakshi Begins Accidentally Dismantling the Producer's Carefully Staged Event, Destroying a Flower Bed, Knocking a Servant Through a Bay Window, and Triggering the Lawn Sprinklers, Soaking the His Pretentious Guests. Sellers Is Typically Brilliant in a Film Abounding in Sidesplitting Sight Gags with a Script By Edwards, Frank Waldman (The Pink Panther Strikes Again) and His Brother Tom Waldman (Inspector Clouseau).

The Party movie
It is hilarious as Peter Sellar's character bumbles through the home of a Hollywood movie executive who is hosting a party. Sometime Sellars drags out a shtick too long in some scenes. Ok, we get it, move on, but he bumbles on. He is awkward as he doesn't know anything about Hollywood culture. He ruins the house with his curiosity. He plays an India-Indian failed actor, affable but quite a dolt. An ordinary man unaccustomed to many western ways. Like Danny Kaye, playing the odinary man, that's what is funny to me. Anybody could be a bumbling guest.

Classic
What can I say……It’s The party, so watch it. Movies back then were always packed with action and sometimes with tons of famous actors all in one movie. Can’t really do that today with the flying ego's, Which is why I get out of acting. You were just love this movie and Peter Sellers is his usual awesome greatness.

Worth it!
I first saw this movie when I was a teenager at the drive in as the second feature. Boy did we laugh!!!! In the very beginning you thin, what the heck, oh no, this is gonna be a dud….but no, keep going, about 10 minutes in the move has been set up and takes on a different turn. Not much of a dialog movie, the original script when they started to film was only 26 pages! Lot of watch and see sight gags. Cringy moments. Incredulous moments. A true 1960’s view of how a modern family with money may have lived. All the gizmos. All the glamour one might have in their home. Now throw a party for a mix of business and pleasure and watch what happens when Peter Sellers shows up….. worth your time.

It’s Peter Sellers at hi best!
In my humble opinion anyways!! The man is up there with the great Charlie Chaplin in this film! A comic genius!! What a great classic movie for classic cinema enthusiasts!!

"Birdie Num Num"
This is one heck of a funny movie. I have seen it a few times and it always cracks me up. Peter Sellers plays an character by the name of Hrundi V. Bakshi, an Indian actor, who accidentally gets invited to a posh, exclusive, Hollywood party and proceeds to inadvertantly make a shambles of the entire affair. There are so many gags in this movie, you really have to watch it more than once to appreciate it. One interesting fact about this movie I recently read..."The Party" was improvised from a 40-page outline. Each scene was shot in sequence, and built upon the previous scene. To aid in this experiment, the film's producers had a video-camera tube attached to the Panavision camera and connected to an Ampex studio videotape machine - allowing the actors and crew to review what they had just filmed. Thus, "The Party" was the first movie ever shot with the now-standard "video assist" system. If you enjoy the Pink Panther movies, then you will most likely enjoy this. Instead of a bumbling French detective, Sellers portrays a bumbling Indian actor, and look for a great performance by Steve Franken as Levinson, a waiter at the party who likes the drink a bit too much. Also, I though Denny Miller was great as 'Wyoming Bill' Kelso. This was directed by Blake Edwards, and is the only non Pink Panther movie he and Peter Sellers made together. Original music by the Great Henry Mancini. Just a whole lot of fun!

Great Classic Peter Sellers Movie
The DVD also has some good extra features about the making of this movie. Interviews with some of the original cast, especially good is with the guy that played the drunk waitor. Almost the whole movie was done as an improvisation. Very impressive if you know that before watching the film.

Sellers would have been a silent movie star
THE PARTY is a movie whose title gives away the plot. Ooops! Should I have said "spoiler warning" before I wrote that? The fact is, this movie is a showcase for Peter Seller's comedic talents. Just as in the PINK PANTHER movies, he plays a fish out of water (here an Indian rather than a Frenchman). There's a bit of a dramatic arc to the movie, which is why this isn't just sketch comedy, but the real point is to see how funny improvised pantomime can be. Yes, a few minutes could have been edited out of the ending where the slapstick level rises dramatically, but that was the style back then.Reasons to watch this film:a) To see a 3-wheeled Morgan.b) To see how Sellers be amazing funny without pulling faces (a la Jim Carrey) or even dialogue. Seller's character is a real person and not an over-the-top characterization. This is the type of film that Charlie Chaplin could have made 50 years prior to it's release.c) To see a stylized version of 60's fashion. Blake would shoot another extended party sequence 10 years later in SOB (1981) and it's interesting to compare the passage of time via fashion and social behavior.d) To learn comedic timing from one of the masters: Peter Sellers. This movie would simply not be possible without him in it. Watch and see how much humor he can derive from such simple actions as retrieving a shoe, flushing a toilet, or finding a men's room. This is the reason why you can have surprisingly long takes (and in master shots no less!): Sellers knowns how to pace the timing and doesn't need the film editors to do so.e) To see Gavin MacLeod before he became a TV star on Mary Tyler Moore and the Love Boat. (And he plays a nasty guy here!)f) To remind yourself that sometimes very subtle gestures can be the most funny. This movie plays like an old-time silent film and you might be inspired to look at the works of Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, or Harold Lloyd if you like this movie.

As funny as I remembered
Not as well known as Pink Panther however this is truly hilarious. Overlook that Peter is playing a middle eastern man and enjoy his character's sweet smile, patience and bumbling in many relatable situations.

deutsche Tonspur
Unglaublich! Die deutsche Tonspur ist drauf! Zugreifen, wenn man diesen Film liebt. Selbst auf dem BR Cover gibt es keine Information dazu.

An all time classic. Modern Indian audiences may not like the caricature of an "Indian Hollywood Extra" portrayed by Peter Sellers. That apart it is a very funny movie.
