great for surfing
I use these earplugs for surfing in the cold waters around San Francisco, to prevent surfers ear. The price is very honest for what they are, unlike branded B.S. sold by the surf industry. Before these I was using the soft wax style "ear gum" earplugs, and I prefer these guys. Yes, hearing is much better. I can actually talk to buds in the lineup without having to take them out and say "HUH?" These take a bit of getting used to though, as when you first put them in, you think they are cheap crap, as they just sit in your ear canal and don't give a completely air-tight "plug". This is why they work so well though. Even though they dont fully plug, they do a great job at keeping water out of your ears, and an even better job of keeping wind out, which I feel is what causes surfer ear more than just cold water. They do get a bit uncomfortable after a long session. I wore them for an entire 5 hour session yesterday, and at the end had a bit of an ache, but we know a 5 hour session is rare. Maybe if the plastic was a bit softer they would be a bit more comfortable. I have yet to wear these without a neoprene hood, but they seem secure enough that they would stay put even without a hood.Update - Wore without a hood in somewhat powerful surf and lost both of them pretty quickly

Great value for the money
Before buying a set of ear plugs for my son, I read through many product reviews. My son has many issues with his ears so finding a set of plugs that keep the water out is a challenge.I read a lot of reviews from people who said that these plugs are great and keep water out. At first, when my son began wearing them, they seemed to be great and do the job. Now, I noticed when he is roughing around the pool, I noticed one slipped out a couple times. It could also be my 12 year old is putting them on in a hurry, which caused the slip.Due to years of ear problems, I have bought and tested many, many ear plugs and even though there were a couple slips, I have to say these did seem to be the best, especially for the price. I also like how they come in a resealable case so they don't get dirty or lost.

Exactly as they say - best compromise between performance and price. I've tried many, and these are the best!
I use earplugs when surfing in windy conditions to avoid earache. These work great. They cut out the wind, and you can still hear reasonably well. Not as well as no earplugs, but I've tried $60 earplugs and they weren't any better in this regard. They do tend to "loosen" up after a while during a long surf session, and then I poke them back deeper into my ears. (Might just be my ears. I've had the same experience with other pro acoustic earplugs.) Anyway I haven't lost them yet after about 10 sessions. But since I will lose them eventually, might as well not spend a fortune! I've tried 3 or 4 other brands and these are the best yet, especially for the price.

Great with MP3 player/headphones
Fantastic with MP3 player! They are a bit hard to place in my ea-I have narrow canals (I wish they had two sizes) so is lets a little water in, but I love them for under caps and of course with headphones. I'll be buying another pair.

Great product....keeps the water out.
I finally used this product today. I used them while using a flowrider. They stayed in place when I was knocked down by the water, where easy to take in and out while I was waiting for my turn, and I didn't get any water in my ears. At first they were a little uncomfortable to get in. But after they got wet they were very easy to pop in and out. I was also able to hear someone speaking to me just fine.

One Size Does Not Fit All
Love that I can hear with them in but they are too big for my ears. Lost both of them within a few weeks while surfing.

Bad for Surfing, But Might be good for The Pool
I purchased these earplugs for surfing and they both fell out and were lost after 30 minutes. The fit was great and I'm sure they would work good in a pool, but don't rely on them in the ocean. A bit too expensive to keep losing.

hard plastic and uncomfortable for me
these are pretty firm and too big for my ears so make sure they will fit first
