The Islamist Phoenix: The Islamic State (ISIS) and the Redrawing of the Middle East Paperback – December 2, 2014

Very informative and well written, cited and easy to read. Her views are not what you get on the media and talk shows. She tracks the events of the past 15 years in a manner I've not heard before and if true, makes one wonder about the approach the US and others are taking to counter what they perceive the IS to be. Her take on the failure of the media to investigate and counter the contrived push for war in Iraq is supplemented by their recent failure to expose what she calls a "deliberately inflated image of the power of al Baghdadi". Pretty extraordinary.

While reading this book I was intellectually amazed by the author profound research undertaken. This book will exponentially enhance the readers understanding about a resilient ISIS threat. An eye opener for our Security Agencies and the Intelligence Community to prevent a potential strategic blunder and to stop ignoring the factual warning signs.

A balanced view of the Islamic State. Also a historical look at the Shia-Sunni divide and the regional instability caused by the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq Topical up to September - October 2014. Many of the references are web news reports rather than academic publications.

A must read. Heard this author on CBC. Was a great interview and I wanted more. If you really want a good discussion on this topic this is a great fast read. I will be buying more by this author.
