We get a detailed history of non-ancient boxing - the sport is thousands of years old - largely through an English lens with a fascinating tour of 18th century forgotten champions who brought the sport from the shadows and often proved saavy businessmen after their careers ended, to the advent of American "Strong Boy" Jon L. Sullivan through the rings greats most know well - Johnson, the extraordinary Armstrong, Dempsey, Marciano, Robinson, Ali; the information is a tad anecdotal; careers such as those of Frazier or even Willie Pep and Harry Greb go underrecognized, but the book is well-illustrated and sold at a low price point. Hagler, Hearns, Duran, Leonard - rivalries such as these, or Alie- Foreman - Norton - Frazier - would greatly round this out, as well as a toal walk-through the career of remarkable five-time title-holder Robinson, for truly giants walked the earth in those days, need much greater explication, even if that meant a mere five page, concise run since we are dealing with a panoramic topic.

This was very comprehensive, and I ended up reading it cover to cover. I find myself going on youtube and looking all the classics fights I learned about in this book. Recommend for any fight fan interested in learning more about the sport.

My husband is a big boxing fan, and this was a gift for him. He loved it.

Awesome as always. Book is very well presented, updated records for the still active fighters. Interesting background to some history of the sport I love. Would recommend.

Sorry to give a one but it's not factually many printing errors for example it should say 1990 but say 1090 even the contents is wrong says certain boxers on a certain page but aren't on the page

Peppered with mistakes..Some facts are out dated..for example Saul Canelo Alvarez became the youngest light middleweight champion in history,surpassing Van Horn record..

Book is of good quality and arrived promptly. Teenage son very happy with it.

Bought this as a present for nephew who is into boxing and he got plenty of hours reading from this.
