I got this for my mother as a Christmas gift based on the recommendations of other reviewers who raved about how well it worked. I'm happy to say they were not kidding! It isn't very big and doesn't look like much sitting on the counter. I was worried that it would be hard to use because its so small or that the suction-style anchoring system would not be strong enough to keep it in place. So far, there have been no problems at all. She's over 80 and has not had any problems using it, The sharpener stays rock-solid on the counter while the knives are drawn through. The knives have come out razor sharp. We've only used it for some straight edge blades so far and the improvement has been so dramatic she hasn't needed to sharpen the others yet. Maybe she hasn't put it through as many trials as other people have, but based on what she's done so far she is more than happy with it.

It is little. The suction cup holds it just fine. It is simple and cheap. It works. I tried it on my worst knives, including a couple that were made of very hard steel and were difficult to sharpen with other devices, including a motorized one with diamond wheels. The SliceXL did it perfectly.Now there is a little pile of steel shavings as this device does not grind a blade, it shears off little slices of steel. You get used to the tilts and the pressure required to do it right. The first few strokes, especially with hard knives, will feel rough, but as the nasty parts are shaved off, it gets smoother. You can follow up with a sharpening steel if you want. On some knives this makes it even sharper after just a couple of strokes, on other knives I did not think it did anything. No matter, the XL sharpens them just fine as is.Seems to be made of good quality materials.Made in China

This works great! It was smaller than I thought it would be but that doesn't take away from it's usefulness, and now that I have it I actually like that it can fit in any drawer. I love the safety feature that it can't be used unless it's 'locked down' with the bottom suction cup, and once you do that it won't move a millimeter, feels like it's built in to the counter. The best part is how easy it is to use, I don't have to wait for my husband to sharpen knives anymore. I tested this on a cheap knife as I've ruined knives with other sharpeners and it worked so great I quickly moved on to sharpening every knife I could find in my house. The before and after difference was awesome, my 5-yr old Calphalon knife set is back to feeling like it's brand new. I'm ordering a couple more for Christmas presents.

Very nice idea. I gave it a 4 star review becuase I believe the suction cup could be better, more pliable material. I have a very smooth counter top and could not get the suction to hold for mor than 5 seconds. I decide to use it on an extremely smooth cookie sheet and it held fine. Using it on a smooth metal surface makes since if the knife slips and hit the surface. Takes about 4 or 5 passes to help sharpen the knife.

I am one-hand,. and this can opener works beautifully for me. I like having a re-usable can with a lid (perfect for bacon grease)

This really is quite a nifty little device. It gives blades a nice edge. It's small, so it can stay tight out on the counter. The clamp that operates the suction cup bars the sharpening notch when it is not attached, so there is no chance you'll use it when it's loose and hurt yourself. I may just get a few to use as gifts.

This thing is as cheap as it gets but..... It works great. Puts quite an edge on the blades. We will see how long it lasts

Looks cheap but really sharpens better than my Henkels knives sharpener that I bought at Williams Sonoma
