Great resource in beautiful condition
I now have the complete set of the New Interpreter's Bible, and it is incredibly helpful for preparing sermons and bible study classes. Nice to have information on translation variations, historical background, interpretation histories, etc. This used copy was in pristine condition, just like the seller said.

Excellent Study Guide
I really like all of the New Intrepreter's Bible volumes I have used. The authors / editors reference a variety of other works and don't present a single opinion or view. They are a great resource to help a teacher prepare for a study. I was surprised by how large this volume is. It is heavy to carry.

excellent reference!
I gave this to my husband as a birthday gift along with Vol.10. They completed the set. My husband is a pastor and these books are probably the best reference he has. He uses them all the time. They offer many good ideas and insights!

New Interpreter's Bible: Isaiah-Ezekiel
This entire series of Bible commentaries are fabulous! I believe that they are the best that I have seen. They are a great resource to prepare for Bible studies or sermons and have a United Methodist leaning.

Very good for Muslims and Jews!
the book is good. very analytical and careful. I would recommend it to those who are looking for clarity on specific verses/chapters that raise questions. This is also good for the Jews who would like to follow Judaism and would help them counter-act missionaries from trying to convert them to Christianity. Makers of this book go into great detail of Isaiah chapter 53 and Isaiah 9:6 and give various opinions in regards to the suffering servant and who the person in Isaiah 9:6 is. As a Muslim, I thought very hard in regards to the chapter and verses of Isaiah 53 and 9:6 and It sounded like Jesus (according to Christian missionaries). BUT when I read the part where it says that "he shall pro-long his days" and "he shall see his offspring" and further evidence of Isaiah 9:6, I knew that it did not refer to Jesus. The book made me realise that it was referring to the suffering servant, which is the nation of Israel and speaks about Israel metaphorically, as a single suffering servant. Also in Isaiah 9:6 it refers to Hezekiah and not Jesus. However, there were other candidates that fit the verse. I as a Muslim do believe in Jesus, but I do not believe that Jesus was Crucified or killed for the sins of humankind and he is neither God Almighty and this book also proves and has shown me that, as well as the Holy Qur'an! Good product and shipped well! If you are a Muslim and you want to buy this book, you don't need all of its volumes, as its too expensive, but this volume will only do for proving the above verses talked about in this review!

Must have for Advent
This is a monster tome, packed full of useful commentary, reflection and background notes. It is easy to find your way around and is a complete resource in itself as each passage of scripture it comments on is reproduced in full. For each section, there is a scholarly commentary that often includes fascinating background information on ancient Middle Eastern society. This is followed by a preacher's reflection which gives a brilliant foundation on which to build a sermon (I have often quoted sections almost verbatim). I bought this in order to have the Isaiah commentary in prearation for taking Christmas services and have already used it for this coming Sunday (Jeremiah 23:1-6). It has given me valuable insights into linking the Old Testament with the New Testament for Christ the King Sunday. At theological college, we were told if we only bought one commentary, it should be this one (albeit in 12 or so volumes). I have 5 volumes of the set so far and not one has disappointed.
