Is it worth buying? Is it awkward to use? What kind of batteries?

Very worth buying! The Braun thermoscan 7 is the best I've bought. I've got a chronic illness & need to have a good thermometer, it's the 4th thermometer I've bought. The other 3 (different makes) doesn't come close to the Braun. It's very easy to use & the results takes seconds, it's brilliant, wish I'd of bought this one first! It uses 2 AA batteries. If anything happened to this one i will definitely be buying this one again. Hope this helps

Anyone experients different reading from ear to ear?! My baby always gets a huge difference?!

You can always remeasure both ears and see if you get different results the second time round. If there is a genuine temperature difference between the ears it can mean there is an ear or throat infection on one side. When our son was aged 0-5 years he was prone to very high temperatures and had a febrile convulsion at the age of one as a result. After that we used a Braun thermoscan to monitor his temperature closely whenever he was ill and if one ears was hotter than the other we reacted to the higher temperature in terms of when it was time to cool him down.

Hi. Amazon states that this is the newer version of the irt 6520 which is on discount. Whst are the differences with this newer black version?

As far as iam aware they are exactly the same only difference being the colours although for almost £20 more a nice Audi or Mercedes logo would make it a bit more premier league and at least fool you into thinking your are getting VFM. Stick with the white one.
