Hollow
I keep reading Harold Pinter plays in the hope that I'll find one that this apparent master of the art will please or satisfy. This one is just as hollow as the others. Told backwards, we learn Jerry has been having an affair with Emma for the past ten years and they have a flat in Kilburn where they meet for their trysts but they wish now to end it. Emma is married to Robert who is also Jerry's best friend. We move backwards through the ten years and learn that Robert knew for most of the time but didn't let Jerry know. The final scene is the beginning when Jerry declares his mad love for Emma in her bedroom and Robert walks in. So what? Clever dialogue but no emotional impact. 2/10.Freak Out!
