All Players Must Be Brainiacs
20+ years ago, we played Trivial Pursuit over and over and over again. Everybody was able to play and everybody was able to answer some questions because they were mostly based on general knowledge and trivia. Not so anymore! If a player is not extremely well-read and informed, they will be very bored because the questions are VERY difficult for the average person. If you don't play the "Easy" mode, you will be "playing" all night waiting for a question to answer. The first time I played, we "got through it" and the second time, with a larger group, we gave up. Nobody wants to "play" something and not be able to "play."The set-up, design and concept of the game is nearly identical in the electronic version. However, the digital "cards" -- because that's all that changed, is the cards are now in a hand-held digital contraption -- do not include the familiar categories and the navigation is cumbersome. It is a three-step process to skip an insanely difficult question. The categories are repeated. The screen will show you, for example, Sports and Leisure I for yellow and Sports and Leisure II for green. With nothing being different about how to play using the digital contraption, I say it's a waste of technology. It would be better if, say, you land on blue and you choose blue (let's say its History) on the screen, then the screen would give the player a choice of questions in categories of Children's questions; Teen questions; World History, U.S. History, etc.Bottom line. Questions are too difficult for average people. The digital contraption adds NOTHING to the game. Definitely not nearly as enjoyable as it was many years ago. It's not a family game, unless you are a family made up of only genius-level knowledge and trivia seekers. Even then, don't expect many non-savant people under the age of 21 to be able to answer even one question.I dont' even know if I want to keep the game I bought for me -- much less the second game I bought as a potential gift.

Great Game!
The digital version of trivial pursuit is great. My friends and I play every week and it's worked very well for us. I think if people have had trouble downloading questions onto the little question consul it's because it doesn't seem to work with Mac's but it definitely works with PC's. The category options are endless and we always try something new every week. Some questions are harder than others and sometimes category titles can be misleading. For example, we chose the category "Classic Books" thinking it would be about classic books. It was actually much broader than that and included questions about random anecdotes from the lives of authors of classic books and other strange trivia. I feel like that's to be expected with Trivial Pursuit though. The main criticism we have with the game is that some of the questions are written very awkwardly, so sometimes they are hard to understand. Anyways, overall it's a great update to the classic game, easy to use, and perfect for playing with friends and family.

EXCELLENT!!! This is the coolest ever!!!
I received this last night. This is the most awesome game idea ever!!! It's small, compact and it works awesome!!! The whole installation, hookup and downloading of (I think it was 5800) questions-all without the slightest problem whatsoever. I read all of these ratings prior to purchase and was sceptical, but for the $10 price I decided to risk it. I'm so happy I've already ordered 2 more for gifts! This is "hands down" my best purchase in years! I downloaded the ENTIRE KID'S EDITION of TP, the 90's Edition and ALL KINDS OF MISC. questions in a matter of minutes! NO CHARGE! Everything was so smooth (and fairly simple) I'm having a hard time believing these bad reviews are the game's fault at all. Here's the key here people: READ THE DIRECTIONS. The instructions that come with the game tell you where/what the buttons do and how to put the batteries in. It also tells you (on the box and about 5 other locations) TO GO TO THEIR WEBSITE to download the desktop application and further directions. When you get there click on the "Getting Started" link on the left side. You can probably print it out but I just minimized it to my tray while I clicked on the "Download", etc. and kept refering back to it when I needed to know what to do next. I had the application put a shortcut on my desktop, so when I minimized the web page I double clicked the icon and it started. (Vista kept telling me I "needed to format the disk", I just "X"d it out. XP probably does the same.) I connected the USB and turned "ON" the switch in the back. Bam, done. At first the application does look a bit intimidating but just READ THE DIRECTIONS! It's well worth the few minutes to learn how to use the program and then you see how easy it is! It's NOT one of those type's where you have to keep going back to the directions over & over. I hate that. Once is all you need! Also, while your downloading questions, etc. if it says "there's a problem" or "it's not connected" the game probably "timed out" (like it says it will in the instructions to save battery power) Just turn it "off" and back "on" again. Problem solved. I hope this has helped a few people. Especially those who are having problems with it. A+++++!

Fun but a little difficult
Kind of complicated to set up. I definitely prefer the regular board game. Great prices for this on here though. I got mine for way less than the price in stores. It's nice to change the questions on it and have more of a variety but when you want to play a game with friends, you don't want to spend 30 minutes setting it up and explaining how to use it. Overall, not bad if you don't pay too much for it.

SCAM!! DO NOT BUY
I bought this as a gift for someone for Christmas. The price was quite steep at $55 CAD but he is a collector and I thought being able to add your own customized categories and such would be fun and be well worth it. After Christmas, we go to play the game. It's fun, it works great. We go to download more "mini-categories" and the website doesn't exist anymore. Hasbro doesn't support this game anymore so you can not add new categories and basically the game is useless. I am in the process of trying to get a refund.

Condition: Not nearly as "good" as the listing claims
Item arrived with a battery compartment lid that was almost impossible to remove. Once we managed to remove it, we found out why it wouldn't come off. There were already batteries inside. The batteries had leaked and the entire compartment was completely covered in corrosion. The item was returned and our money was refunded.

My husband and I love trivia. Thought this would be a good way to take it travelling with us. NO! No updates or getting to choose the topics. Once you've gone though what is there it just repeats.
