Gift that She Didn't Know She Needed
I was working on my sister's technical stuff while she was away on a trip. Her computer only has two USB outlets and her mouse and backup drive were taking those. She received a few items from her daughter that needed to be charged via USB... so I ordered this hub for her as part of her Christmas presents. It works just fine and will make her life easier by having a USB port available when she needs to charge her new technical toys.

Powered my new devices perfectly
After purchasing a new keyboard and touchpad, my old powered hub was not strong enough to run the devices. (Tried TWO of them!) They worked perfectly as soon as I plugged them in to this one. Also, it's kind of neat to be able to turn off the ports I'm not using. Not sure of the reason for that, but the less electricity, the better. Right?

This little hub turned my Xaiomi Mi Box into a media powerhouse!
Perfect! This 3.0 hub runs at max 2.0 speeds connected to the USB 2.0 port & being powered it helps reduce the current drawn from my device which basically eliminates any controller lag when gaming or buffering while playing media from expandable storage or my network.

Great solid hub and features at a cheap price.
This product works great. Like another reviewer mentioned, there are times where coming out of sleep and it is powered, it requires unplugging and plugging back in for the system to detect it. Normally it would be a negative but it happens. Formerly in IT responsible for approving products, there is no perfect product because of the huge amount of possible combinations out there and it shows in product reviews of the product because you will hear of the one combination that did not work. The hub has no problems with 2 other DELLs, 1 HP Envy, or a Lenovo laptop and a dozen desktops just this oddball Spectre.Back to the review:This product works well and the individual buttons are quite helpful. For those really picky about build quality, the blue LED light is only bright on the side facing the ports but the clear ring circles the buttons. The buttons have a little more play than buttons on a PS4/xbox controller. We have 2.5 of these (more later) and the male and female plugs are snug and solid feeling. They all come with unique serial numbers and has a decent build feel to it. The use of the buttons helps wear and tear on cords and plugs since I don't have to pull out USB units I am not using. Since I travel and this laptop, keyboard, mouse, fan, etc. is my primary computer, this inexpensive feature saves wear and tear on $1000 of equipment. My personal experience is that keeping things on when you don't need them puts more wear and tear on the device and the laptop's circuitry. Another nice feature is that the hub works with or without the power plug. If you just need usb power for your fans without hooking it to a computer, you can use it unplugged. If there is enough power for the ports, there is no voltage/amp difference on which port you plug it into which is a problem on cheaper hubs. (Tested with multimeter)About the 2.5 units, the first one I received threw error messages on my HP Spectre, At that time, I got an email for a review from Sabrent and although I wasn't sure about cause of the problem, they quickly sent me a replacement. The problem was the power brick but I got the replacement with almost no downtime.Pro:Individual buttons helps fine tune power useCan be used as passive power or with optional AC power for devices needing more powerLight on active port(s) right on button so you know at a glance versus others on the side or just one light overallGreat customer service (May 2017)Con:For the HP Spectre, waking up from sleep sometimes requires reseating plug, not a problem if powering offLights around button could be more uniform but I'd rather have something than nothing

Expecting a solution to another issue, but on it's own--a great product!
This is a great piece of hardware... The reason I purchased it was because I thought it was pose as a solution to an issue I've been having with my Blue Snowball iCE USB microphone... It randomly has a crackling noise that sounds somewhat like clipping... So one solution was to purchase a powered USB hub and plug it into the wall... Apparently this solution would apply to you if your microphone was drawing too much power from the computer's motherboard they said... In short, it did not fix that issue... But with my laptop, I have a limited amount of USB ports, so this device did add a few more to my repertoire and works exactly like it should! No shame to Sabrent on this issue! But one thing that I kind of have a small personal concern with actually concerning this device... There are LEDs in it to signal you whether or not a particular USB port is being powered or not... The LED is on the one side of the device, but the space it is supposed to illuminate circles the button... Only one side of it is lit when you have the port active... This is simply cosmetic and does not hinder performance, though... Although, if the device wasn't going to completely light up the socket, they could have chosen a different design in my opinion... Like maybe a small rectangle outside of the button...Once again... Just a cosmetic thing... The device performs exceptionally well in my experience! (Although, since it didn't fix my issue, I would much rather have the non-AC version that would be directly powered by my laptop...)Great product! Works as intended (in my experience of very light use).

Handles multiple external USB backup drives without breaking a sweat
Unpowered hubs can handle low-draw devices like keyboards, mice, and thumb drives, but try plugging a couple of external backup drives into an unpowered hub, and all bets are off. Usually, external drives won't work unless they're plugged directly into your laptop or PC, which becomes a problem if you don't have enough USB ports to go around. But this hub includes a power adapter, which gives it the extra juice needed to effortlessly handle multiple external USB backup drives at the same time. That means you can transfer files directly between external drives without having to use your internal hard drive as a go-between.There are individual power buttons controlling each port, which is a useful feature for taking some drives offline -- without unplugging them -- until they are needed. In an extreme case, having some drives offline could save them from data loss caused by malware, or buggy software. It happens.
