My first hand mixer was a Black & Decker and it literally lasted over 20 years through heavy use. The prices are reasonable for the quality. I decided to get this toaster for that reason and when my more expensive name brand toaster started smoking & sparking after only about 4 years. First it toasts evenly. It does seem well made but the outer shell (the black part) is plastic not metal. I usually prefer and buy stainless steel. There was a slight plastic smell the first time I used it. It's simple to use. Basic controls and settings. I use wider whole grain bread and the slices fit just fine. The picture is bread that I toasted on the 3 setting. Both sides are toasted evenly. Overall I am happy with this toaster.
