what can you charge on the usb thats relevant to modern time if phone cant be charged??

Biolite makes headlamps (i have several and recommend), several other lights i have use USB connections as well.

Can i change a phone with this?

The output on the USB port does not put out enough power to charge an Android or iPhone whole it's on. USB lighting usually no problem

How is this marketed as new? the biolite web site clearly states that they do not sell the homestove 2 to the general public.

I spoke with BioLite directly on this and they said "Yes we know they are being sold on Amazon. Occasionally there are over runs that are sold there".

does it come with a carrying case

No, this is not meant to be carried like the little one. It is heavy and meant to be used in a camp, to be transported by means other than humans.
