The Prison Letters of Nelson Mandela

This is an amazing book - taking the editor, Sahm Venter, some 10 years to bring this book to fruition. The letters, many never before found in print, have been collected from numerous sources and are put together here in chronological order, separated by the four different prisons in which he was incarcerated for a total of more than 27 years. These letters give the reader an insight to the courageous man he was; a man who never gave up, and who lived his life with hope and love.

As an ex South African, I am terribly saddened by these letters of Mandella.I am also ashamed that we as members of the white race could behave in this fashion.However Mr Mandella makes me proud that he could come out of this and behave the way he did.I truly believe that if there was such a thing as a saint in this day and age, hr would fit the bill.Michael Mullne

Reading these letters is like looking over Mr. Mandela's shoulder. He is an amazing visionary who is patient, persistent, determined and obviously a thorough and brilliant lawyer. Not all of the letters are photographed from his own handwriting.

This was a gift to my wife's daughter who is going to South Africa with a college class in August. I thought she would enjoy it.

Treasure trove of history and learning about the intimate parts of Nelson Mandela and his family that would have been lost without this book.

A must read if you are a Mandella fan

Great content, good condition.

This is quite a journey over 27 years of prison life. I wanted to know how he survived without building hatred for his captors. He kept contact with friends and loved ones as well as he could. He kept believing in the justice of his quest and was ever hopeful for a better day in a better South Africa. It’s a good complementary volume to Walk Toward Freedom.

His letter express the breadth of his love and compassion. Surely a remarkable man. Wonderful book to read and re-read.
