TP-Link TL-SG116, 16 Port Gigabit Unmanaged Ethernet Switch

I purchased this 16-port unmanaged switch to replace an assortment of smaller switches I was using in my home office. The price seemed reasonable for a brand-name 16 port 1GB switch. When it arrived, I connected all of my office devices to it with CAT6 cable and took it for a spin. All I can say is "wow." This switch is a great example of plug-and-play. I powered it on, connected my ISP cable into port one and then plugged in all of the cables from my desktop computers, printers, scanner and notebook computer, plus the home wireless router. Everything worked flawlessly. I used the browser on my desktop to run a download/upload speed test and the switch was definitely delivering the 1GB advertised throughput. The switch has to be plugged into a power outlet but there is no fan inside. I have not noticed it heating up at all and I appreciate the absence of yet another fan whirring faintly in the background. The unit is a little over 11 inches wide, so before you order one, make sure you have enough space for it in your workplace. It can also be mounted on the wall. As a final test, I plugged enough equipment into the switch to use up 15 of the 16 ports. I wanted to see if there would be any traffic collision issues. Success. Performance didn't appear to be degraded on any of the devices connected to it. I am more than pleased with this purchase. My home office network runs much faster than it did with my older switches. The large number of ports on this new switch allowed me to reduce some of the cable clutter around my workspace. The quality of the metal case is excellent. It's a good day when you can purchase a network computing device that comes out of the box, plugs in and just plain works. I highly recommend this product if you're running out of ports on a 4 or 8-port switch. If you are standing up a wired home network for the first time, spend a few extra dollars for this switch if you have four or five devices to connect. That will leave a lot of unused ports on your switch but you won't have to worry about buying another switch if you expand your network in the future.

It does what it says it will do. Pretty simple as networking components go, but I've owned a number of TP-LINK products and all have been good and were still running strong when it was time to upgrade. You can see and feel the quality. I've never had to test the warranty service. Another good offering from this company. I like that this unit runs fine without a fan under full load.

I installed this switch in the wall of my bedroom and ran Ethernet cables to every room in the house. Works great and super fast!!!

A long time ago I purchased it and after maybe 4-5 years since it still works perfectly. Is a great purchase for a home lab

The build quality of this product is excellent usability is excellent. I’m not sure it’s helped my system. It is a simple switch. Tt seems to have created new issues while potentially also resolving others… that may not be a product problem, I just may need a more robust switch… just make sure you understand it’s purpose and use.

Plug and play. We had power outage that tried to stay connected, but we lost power after 3 violent attempts to stay on. Even with a whole house surge protector, my old Netgear switch bit it. This unit came to life and I had the ability to connect my router, hardwired locations and printers in less than 5 minutes. I also backed it up with a better surge protector.

Excelente equipo, lo uso para mis consolas de videojuegos y la verdad muy eficiente, aparte conectado mi equipo de computo y sin ningun problema, aparte a pesar de como se ve en la img, si es pequeño, pense que seria mas grande por lo general que he visto, pero esta vez si realmente es lo maximo porque puedo dejarlo casi en cuaquier lugar

The device works well and replaces (in my case) and old 100Mb/s 8 port switch. The improvement is significantly noticeable for me.

As advertised. Plug and play, no fuss. Excellent value for the port quantity. Provides great response even when taxed with a game console, PC and streaming music simultaneously. Installed with command strips on the back of my desk. My only beef with any of these products is the power connection being on the opposite side of the unit from the port side. Yes, I get that that makes sense if you're using a rack, but most home users have this on a desk or a shelf and trying to wrangle the power adapter and the cat cables being on the opposite side from each other is annoying. As a whole, someone should come up with a product form that just works better in a home set up.

Arrived with US outlet. I Will update only if I have problems, or it turns out surprisingly good.
