Terrific product
I bought this along with a small reading lamp because I was always waking in the middle of the night with the lights on, having read myself to sleep. I know that a lit room is not as restful for sleeping as a dark one, so I determined to try to do something about it. This little timer will turn your lights off after an hour, or three, six, or nine hours. It works flawlessly. I now use this little remote to turn on the light and set a shutoff time as I'm getting ready for bed. I read myself to sleep and just set my Kindle down when I get sleepy, knowing the light will take care of itself. To operate the remote, you turn on the light, and then click on one of the other four buttons, selecting how long you want the light to stay on. If you turn off the light and set the timer buttons, it will turn on the light at the right time -- handy if you have a reason to be up at night without fumbling for the light switch. I've been using this for several months and it works flawlessly. There's a holder with a Velcro patch so you can mount the remote where it is most convenient for you. Mine is on a nightstand where I can easily reach it to turn the light on or off at will. It's a handy remote that works from anywhere in the room. The timer feature is an exceptional bonus. For anyone just wanting a remote, I recommend the inexpensive sets that come with three adapters. I have those as well to manage other lights, a small heater, and my computer electronics -- but this one, with its timer, serves the additional purpose of shutting down after I go to sleep -- a really big deal at a very reasonable price.

Nice idea - but marginal reliability
Great idea for controlling the block heater on my diesel truck from inside the house. But...it only seems to work about 1 out of 5 times. Its not clear if its range problems or cold weather problems. But without some kind of feedback you cant just hit the button and assume its on. You cant even hit the 5 times and assume its on (or off). Sometimes it seems like I have to walk right up to it with the remote before it will switch. Other times it works from inside the house.

If you really need it!
Its a good product...has worked fine for me since I bought it 3 month's ago. it has an on and an off remote with timer feature for 1, 3, 6 & 9 hours so you can set it to turn on or off for that amount of time. Its really light and I personally think it should be made a bit smaller in size. I could also use a 3 pack set with one remote for all if they make it a bit smaller and an of off switch on the wall outlet itself because using the one switch for 3 functions get's kind of annoying because you get sick of holding the button for a set amount of time.

Convenient for hard to reach electrical devices you wish to turn on and off
I bought this unit to turn on and off a lamp by my bedside that's hard to get to. I have a main room light that's powered by a light switch but for a few hours before I go to bed at night, I switch to the lamp by my bed. I thought about timers but I'm in my room at various times depending on the day. This remote controlled outlet is great for what I need. There are, however, two things missing that would've made this unit perfect.First, this unit does not have an on/off switch on itself. It only has a "learning" button on the unit that helps it pair with other remotes. It is arguable that since it's a remote controlled device, a button on the outlet is unnecessary, but I found this to be not true. There are times when one might misplace the remote, or simply would like to turn off the unit without using the remote. The simple work around is to just unplug the power cable connected to this outlet, but an on/off button would be much easier than yanking out the power cable.Second, this outlet unit is bulky. I understand there's a timer built in, but the device could use a little slimming down. It is boxy and about the size of a car radar detector. Some would also point out there's only one outlet, but this is fine as you can connect a surge protector or multi-outlet adapter to this unit.A few things you should know are:-The unit makes a noticeable "click" noise to let you know it has been turned on or off, this is a good thing for me as it lets me know if various electrical devices connected are not working versus the remote control outlet itself not functioning.-The remote control comes with a small cradle/dock that can be adhered to a surface and removed easily (velcro)-The outlet and remote have a timer setting that allows you to have the outlet turn off in either one, three, six, or nine hours.-The outlet has an indicator light that is on when the outlet is on and blinks when the timer setting is activated.-The remote works through walls (RF) and from fairly far distances, ~30 ft., despite promising 100ft. The more walls, the less the distance.Overall, the quality of the unit looks rigid and sturdy. One of its drawbacks, the bulkiness, is also one of its strong points because the outlet looks like it could stand up to some punishment. The remote control also looks well built and not flimsy like many imported products on the market today. There is also a Stanley brand unit that comes with three outlets and a single remote to control each of them separately. The unit is $21 as of July 2012, which is only $5-6 more expensive than this NuGiant unit with one outlet.

A very superior 2-way wireless remote
The ONLY remote controller I could find that has an off-on switch at the base unit, that interacts with the handheld switch. (It works exactly like a two-way light switch, a VERY useful feature.) I can leave the handheld upstairs after turning on my coffee maker, and turn the coffee maker off (or on, for that matter) downstairs via the base unit. The system is ready to go the next morning after setting up the coffee maker the night before. The target appliance does require a toggle or rocker on-off switch, that can be set permanently to "on", so as to allow the base unit to energize the appliance. Finally, the remote's range consistently reaches the base through a wall and floor, and approximately 25 yards. The remote does use a strange little 23A 12 volt battery that lasts REMARKABLY long and only costs a dollar or so. I have not used the timer function, but instructions are clear, and the timer may be useful for random lighting cycles.

NuGiant unresponsive to warranty issue.
Product worked for a month or so and then experienced a meltdown. Returned to NuGiant, under warranty, about 7 weeks ago. Have tried to contact NuGiant 4 times, to get an update and they are unresponsive. They don't seem to have a phone number and they do not respond to my emails.
