Excellent Radio for the price - Great audio and performance
This radio is a Competitor to many others and excels in places others are deficient! There are many things to be impressed with regarding this radio. I have owned several other radios and I can find many improvements over them on this radio. First of all the build quality is great and solid. One area of complaint with other radios has been greatly improved with this radio and that is the supplied manual. If you can't figure out how to use a radio and depend on the manual then it doesn't help you one bit having a bad manual. The owner's manual that comes with this radio is much improved over the other radios I have previously owned. Another BIG improvement is the charging cradle and ability to charge the radio. This radio fits very snugly into the charging cradle and doesn't wobble around as many other radios do. Often you have to move a radio around just to enable it to make contact with the battery. That is not the case with this radio and charging cradle. The radio fits tightly into the cradle and even if the charging cradle is knocked over the radio continues to stay in the cradle and charge. Another improvement, at least to me, is the feedback voice that announces various operational features and conditions of the radio. It's a very clear and understandable voice. The backlit keypad also is helpful to users when there is not a lot of light. If trying to decide between this radio and the others, in this price range, I believe that this radio is by far a better purchase and will make a dent in the other radios sales once people become aware it exists. If there was any complaint that I would voice it would be the most minor complaint and that is the labeling on the function button. The function button has the initials "FUN" printed on it. Although it may (due to its size) be impractical to add another letter and thus say "FUNC" instead. This is such a minor complaint and has nothing to do with its operation.Receive volume is very loud and the speaker is very good quality. It should enable the operator to hear easily even in a noisy environment. The feedback I have received from other operators I have spoken to indicates that the transmit audio is also very pleasant and faithful to the operator's voice. The battery is quite large but as a result, provides good battery life for the operator even when operating on high power (5 watts). The battery also fits snugly onto the radio and doesn't wobble or move around once attached. The LED lamp on top of the radio, although considered useless by many, is actually quite handy and can act as a flashlight if you need. It also can be set to flash on and off with a second momentary push of the side lamp button which also functions to open the squelch if the button is held in. It's amazing to me that these radios are inexpensive as they are because their quality is that of a much more expensive radio.

Very sturdy and well made
These radios are really sturdy and when you hold them, they truly feel like a durable piece of equipment, very sturdy antennas as well, you just have to keep in mind of the frequencies you are using so that you don't do something illegal by accident. But all in all these radios are awesome and I highly recommend them, the best part is the chargers, I've seen a lot of radios like this come with USB chargers, these actually come with their own charging blocks, on for each charger and for each radio, all in all for the price they are durable and well made!

More features and functions than a family FRS walkie talkies
I bought a pair of professional walkie talkies and that's what I want. So, be sure you know what you are looking at and what you are buying. Just look at the product pictures, it comes with digital display and keypad. Sorry, it can't make a phone call, but there are lots of functions that you wont find in those simple family FRS walkie talkie, the extra functions are more for professional or 2way radio enthusiast uses. With that said, can you just turn on and use it? Yes. But if you intend to use it JUST that way, then this probably overkill and you should pick another one, you can get that simple one for much less. So, the product description already list all of its features but I like to highlight some that I found I am more interested or like...* keypad - of course the presence of the numeric keypad means you can enter the EXACT frequency you want(within its limits, of course), that's very handy to communicate through a more "secret" or agreed channel instead of those preset or predefined "channels" that will easily jam with others.* frequency band - available in VHF/UHF, plus FM band for radio reception only. If you don't know the pros and cons of vhf/uhf, then research it, it does affect the performance when you use in different environment like indoor/outdoor or with what kind of obstacles because the frequency penetration capability is different. So, it's good that you have that option to pick it.* large battery capacity in lithium - simply just means the working and standby time can be much longer* the charger can charge the battery alone or with the handset together, which is convenient. One additional to note is that the charger base is 12v input, the ac110v to 12v adapter is of course included, which means if you get the proper cigarette plug and input adapter, I believe is 5.5mm barrel, which means you can charge the battery in the vehicle easily as well. Some other products have the ac110v tied to the charger base together which is less flexible in terms of charging option.* LCD display - it shows you what rx or tx frequency you are on, and the color can even be changed to different color when signal received or in talking, very nice and attention drawing.* lots more - lots more functions can be found or customized like the tail tone, scan monitor, radio, squelch level, vox mode, ctcss/dcs, etc.You better know those a little bit then you will find this unit more fun and how powerful it is.Since there are lots of functions and features you can set or customize, navigation of the menu with those limited keys is a little bit challenging, but once you familiar with the manual and use it for a while, then you would get used to those. The 5w output is pretty powerful, I can make clear communication from home to my neighborhood playground/pool without problem, I think if both units are in open area, performance should be even better. In conclusion, it is for those who want more customized features and precise settings than just turn on with 16 preset channels. Be sure to reserve some time to know the details and learn how to use those advance functions.
