NOT the Second Edition!!! Don’t pay top dollar for a not current book!!!
I can’t believe Amazon is still not only charging top-dollar for a not-current edition of this book, they don’t offer a print version!!! The Second Edition is only available in the Kindle version. While this book is valuable, it doesn’t have very important topics like digital citizenship, the AASL Standards for the 21st Century Learner, Partnership for 21st Century Skills & Common Core State Standards. The chapter on Technology is mere 12 pages!!! It still baffles me that one is charged top dollar for an edition that isn’t current. I missed the return deadline by 2 days and want others NOT to make the mistake I did. Granted I didn’t do much researching, instead of assuming Amazon’s price was for the most current edition and I won’t make that mistake again. Will be using my good old brick-&-mortar stores to get the updated edition.

Absolute necessity for new school library media specialists
I am a recent MLS graduate and my first job out of school is as a school library media specialist - with no education experience or classes! I bought this book desperate for any help at all, but not having my hopes too high because it's often hard to learn practical information for a job from a book. I was so extremely surprised and happy with this book! I read it during the month before I started my new job. From day one on the job, I was so thankful I had read this book! It was right on in so many ways and has been an absolute God send for me. However, I could see that this book could be too basic for anyone who has taken school library media classes during your MLS program. But for anyone without that experience interested in a school library career path, or like me, about to enter it - you will love this book!

ALA propaganda
If I had looked and saw the ALA published this book I would not have ordered it & I do not recommend anyone else does. If you are an ALA drone, it is likely you will enjoy this book, but anyone who made it through library school still capable of thinking on his own will see this as just another ALA brainwashing job. The ALA does NOT speak for all librarians and all this book does is promote the ALA. I am sick of the ALA pushing their products down the throats of all librarians. It is even more disheartening to see them team up with library schools so they are able to catch unsuspecting students. The authors of this book do not seem to realize that all schools are not funded with unlimited resources, nor do they operate in a perfect world. Like so many other authors in the field, those who wrote this book need to actually get in touch with reality and think about real-world scenarios and deal with schools as they truly are!

Decent book.
This was a decent book. It didn't have as much information as I had hoped, but it was interesting. My only complaint is that this book kept referring back to another book "Information Power"---that I have never read.

Much needed for SLMS
This "handbook" for success in the school library is a great read for the new to the educational system. There are many philosophies which are solidified in your mind if you are transitioning to the school library from the regular education classroom. This book makes that transition smoother and more attainable.

A comprehensive read for any SLMS
An excellent comprehensive coverage of all areas tackled by a SLMS. All of the chapters are easy to read and very informative plus a lot if the ideas may easily be applied in other organizations.
