Raw and Powerful
This story, in much of Ike's own words, made me appreciate his own "Never Give Up" spirit. I practice Nichiren Buddhism and chant Nam myoho renge kyo. We take responsibility for our consequences because that is our Buddhist practice. The Law of "Cause and Effect" is strict. Ike led a hard life, but he loved his music and was generous with others when he saw they were down. I have learned not to judge others and have a great appreciation of Ike as I read this book. He shares in great raw detail his life. If you choose to read about his life you can skim over parts that are sordid. However, i saw a man thathad a temper, but he spoke honestly about being oversexed, the drugs, that dragged him to the bottom, and his prison term and how he got clean for a while, his hard work to earn his grammy and the respect he earned back from many people including me. Thank you Nigel for helping to get Ike's story told.

I Ike
Well, let me say this, if you are a Tina Turner fan like I am, then you will have to put your faithfulness to the side to read this book, because there are always two sides to a story. The first thing I want to say is Ike tried to use Tina's style in telling his side of the story. I guess he figured, "if she could do it, I can too". And this style did not do him justice. It made him look like a low life womanizer, don't give a hoot about life and that everyone is picking on him or was/still out to use and get him. I feel that he could have gotten another co-writer or a contributer to help write his side of the story.I did not like this book, because they jumped from one year to another and back to an earlier year and left the reader wondering what happened in between. The book really got confusing.Second, Ike did admit that he did hit Tina, he said he did not abuse her, but he hit her. I do believe that he did not abuse her until after he became addicted to cocain. And I a glad to see that he apologize for his actions.I think that he should have stayed away from the movie "What's Love Got to Do With it", and focus more on answering questions in her book "I, Tina" because it was obvious (if you read the book), that the movie was somewhat ficticious.I wanted his book to go into more details on his life with Tina, though I know that he had a life before and after her and I wished he could have shown more pictures. I think he was too detailed in his child hood sex life. He should have just told who and how he lost his virginity and not described how it felt. When he did this, I felt I was reading porn.He could have given a little more detail on why him and Ann Thomas seperated. I also wanted to learn more on his relationship with his children's mother (Lorraine) and also, touched on his relationship with Little Richard, Gladys Knight and other R&B artist he toured with at the Apollo, the Howard Theater, etc.I don't think the book deserves 4 stars because of its writing style, but I gave it four stars because of his efforts to "Get the Record Straight".

To hear his (Ike Tuner) side of the story.
This is only my opinion of what I have read between “I Tina” & “My Love Story” and Ike Turner “Taking My Name Back”.Ike Turner had a big responsibility as the owner of his band and many other duties he had to manage. He indicates the gifts he gave away. Was he just showing off? Then later expected for these people be there for him when he was in trouble. And to do the drugs the way he said did, I am surprised he was not dead back then. He states Tina was like a sister then a mother to him. So why did he not break up the relationship before Tina calling it off. WOW! The language he used in the book was outrages. My opinion of Tina she already was singing when she was young. As a singer she was sexy. I feel her singing improved after she left Ike Turner and she was just attracted to white men as it could have been the opposite for others.

I've always wanted to hear his side of the story!
I've always felt that the movie "Whats Love Got To Do With It" was over exaggerated .Ike did not deny that he fought Tina.He realized he made mistakes, and did acknowledged them.I believed him when he wrote things such as he did not rape Tina.I did not know that he was not the father of Tina's first child.I believed him when he wrote how Tina knew of his relationships with other women. Actually, they were best friends! She used to set him up with many of these women at the same time!So surely she didn't expect him to be faithful!I felt sorry for him because that movie did hurt him professionally .....and I do believe that he did not get the credit he deserved. Poor Ikr!

Grammar Issues
I was interested in this book to hear about the late Ike Turner and really see his perspective on fame and what his life was like while married to Tina Turner but instead i got a watered down version being told by a narrator who seemed more interested in tearing Tina down 👎🏾👎🏾 I have no interest in reading the rest of the book as it has a lot of grammar issues poorly told.

Look past the 100’s of typos and it’s a super satisfying read
If you can get past the typos and jumping of time periods, this is a fascinating account of Ike’s view of things. I’m a big fan of the musical side of Ike and loved that so much of this is in his own voice. And while he may not own up to everything, he certainly tells plenty of stories where he doesn’t come off too well.I don’t understand how a book first published in 1999 could be printed in 2020 with so many typos. Shame on the publisher! Zero stars for presentation.

Sympathy for the devil (not much )
I felt really sorry or Icke because of the way he was portrayed in the" what s love got to do with it?" film . there was a scene where he raped tina in the studio , They both said in interviews that this never happened , Tina s book I tina was nothing like the film and described violence on both sides. I really enjoyed Ike s book to begin with , the descriptions of growing up in the wild west as a black man , how he lost his virginity age 6 ! ike however does have serious issues . he built a studio with cameras in each room so he could film other members of his band having sex ! he admits to all sorts of violence towards Tina as if it was no big deal ....I don t have much sympathy for him after reading , but it was a great book !

Though littered with typos this chugs along well enough and paints a fair picture of the man. The horrors faced by black Americans in the Southern states when he was a boy, his rise, due to his extraordinary talent, and ultimate downfall from drug abuse and the scandal of Tina Turner's accusations. Anyone interested in the history of Rock n Roll will find this to be a fascinating reading.
