Rugby players baking cakes? That surely takes the biscuit!
It was Vincent Price who started it all. Perhaps there were celebrity cookbooks before the suave horror movie star wrote his but his stoked the flames of what has now become an inferno. So why not the Exeter Chiefs Rugby Club? Here, then, as part of Phil Dollman's testimonial year and with proceeds going to the Devon Air Ambulance and the charities of the Exeter Foundation, Dave Ewers, Tom Waldrom and the rest chip in their favourite sweet, sweet recipes, road tested by Debbie from Mad Cakes - who must know what she's talking about - and perfected at the Room Works where the players have been known to compete for bragging rights with the footballers of Exeter City. Among the more intriguing recipes are a delicious Stout Cake, care of Moray Low, the very naughty Dolly's G & T Cake and Ben Moon battling with Luke Cowan-Dickie over whether the jam goes on top of the clotted cream on a scone or vice versa (one's from Devon and one from Cornwall so we'll probably never hear the last of it).So go on, be a devil - and, when you're cutting those cakes, be sure to use the Tomahawk Chop!
