Decent book of examples
This book is meant to be a handy place to find a number of templates that you can customize for your own use. It's not meant to be a beginning primer, and does assume that you have some basic knowledge about Unity already. If you go into the book with that assumption, you won't be disappointed.I'm about half way through, and I'm overall pleased with it. It does seem like it's a bit confused about the audience, though. The initial examples were pretty short and don't have a lot of explanation. There is one later example which implements something with 10 variables, then explains why you could use an array instead. Why they felt the need to explain basic programming concepts, but failed to explain the first examples better, I don't understand. I don't consider this to be a major flaw since they were simple, just a curious decision. I'd rather see well written examples with explanations afterwards if necessary. All the graphics were made and explained with Adobe instead of a freeware product. It didn't matter much to me, since they were straightforward, but it may matter to some people.

Recipes are good but very shallow
Ok, its a cookbook. Just recipes ready to consumption. But they could had explained better the principles behind the examples. It would made the book more useful. But its still a good book.

Good book
Simple and practical. Could have more about mecanim, but its ok. It has some good samples, and the authors made the book easy to red.

Unity rocks
I love all things Unity, of that there is no doubt. This book provides more interesting stuff and it really is kind of cool. There is so much great Unity material out there so when I write about something exciting in Unity, there is a lot of written and video documentation and so much of it is mundane, but the cookbook is pretty good.Right now I'm developing in Unity 4.3 I think and there is so much great Unity stuff, best of all, it is truly cross platform, I do all of my coding on my Mac (a mini, 10.9.3)

Not good...
I bought this book to learn about mecanim and the new features in unity 4.i am very very sad... EVERYTHING in this book can be found in YouTube with some explanations... the book do not explain anything is just step 1 do this, step 2 attach this file...the table of content is amazing, but only touch the surface of each topic.only good if you are a totally new.i will not recommend this to any one.

Usable recipes and snippets, but not a full Unity overview
This is not a book to teach you Unity from start to finish. It assumes you know the basics and are willing to write scripts in C# to get things done. As such, it was a perfect fit for me. I have the basic knowledge and know my way around Unity and have experience in programming in different languages. It has a clear structure and each chapter has several usable short examples that you can use to create more extensive scripts. I really appreciated the examples on writing and parsing files. Still have to try some of the examples, but have applied several of the techniques already in my current projects. Some examples are a bit too pragmatic and could use some more comments on why it was created this way. To reuse examples, I like complete code sections, but to learn how they work and why there are created that way, I prefer examples to be split in sections with explanations in between. Here you get a problem and are immediately greeted with a solution script and some explanation afterwards. From an educational perspective, this could be more refined. If you want to learn Unity, wait to read this book. You might start from Game Development Essentials, by Will Goldstone, which I recommend as a first Unity book. But I do recommend this book.

Not for beginners
Contary to the description, this is not a beginners book nor a book to help you learn Unity. It is a collection of techniques and code to do certain things in Unity. Personally, I'm finding it useful, but it should be a supplement, not your only book. The By Example and Beginners Guide books are better suited for a tutorial. But if you know the basics of Unity, this will be useful...if the sort of thing you want is covered in the contents page.

Brilliant book. Provides a number of solutions to problems
Brilliant book. Provides a number of solutions to problems. If you have every though how do I do that, it will probably been in here. The book doesn't waffle or blow smoke it just gets on with it and you will need a good understanding of C#.

A good text but, the lack of detail makes it hard to follow for anyone who isn't already a Unity 4 programmer
This book covers various techniques and features that you can implement in your own games. It isn't a teach you programming book though and assumes you already own and use Unity 4. Buy this if you are just looking for inspiration for your Unity game but, if that is the case then you'll likely want to pick up "A book of lenses" instead as that will serve your creative mind, no matter what game or language you are working on.

A good step-by-step approach
I'm still reading the book, but I'm already satisfied with it. Objective approach with interesting examples. But, before, I recommend you to get a Beginner's book about Unity 3D in order to begin at this one.
