A great way to learn history
I saw this in a shop and thought it might be cheaper on Amazon. It was a bargain here and postage included I saved over £10 on this present for my grandchildren aged 6 and 10. I thought it a good way to teach real history, combining a knowledge of dates/periods with social history too. it is an excellent approach. My 10 year old grandaughter read it herself with enjoyment. I read to my six year old grandson. We did this over several days so we could really study each page and benefit from them. He enjoyed answering the questions, finding objects and activities. Changes through the centuries are well evidenced. The castle goes from a vital defence through a war ruin to present day tourist attraction as an ancient monument. A most excellent way of making history informed and enjoyable for all ages.

Don't buy the cheap version of this wonderful book
I wish I hadn't bought the cheaper, reduced size version of the original Street Through Time for my grandchildren. The original is a marvellous book for its fascinating details of life in the past, e.g. the man discovering his buboes of the Black Death under his arm. Children love that sort of thing. But the details are so small in the reduced size book, that you can't work out what is going on unless you remember or describe the scenes from the original. I don't think my grandsons are going to be able to work out for themselves what is happening in the illustrations. Very disappointed and would like to exchange this for the more expensive version.

Superb!
Look, I'm not going to lie. I'm 46 and my kids are all grown up and I read this for no other reason than it looked like a fun read. Well, I was not disappointed as this was so much fun to read and the pictures brought it to life. I learned a lot. I also learned you are never to old to enjoy a book for youngsters :)

A Street through Time: fun & factual.
This is a lovely book showing the history of the street through the ages. There is a lot of detail on each page & it keeps both adults and children occupied. It is both factual and fun & has little challenges for children to find at each stage. I love it.

Facinating for 6 year olds !
I bought this for my two grandsons, 6 and 8. The latter is already well into books; the former is on the brink. I am delighted that it was the latter who really latched on to this book immediately. He was particularly taken by the "Plague" page and some of the early civilisations. You won't be surprised to learn that the 8 year old soon spotted the man using the long drop getting caught out by invaders ! As one talks about the pictures one realises just how many levels at which there is an opportunity to compare and discuss. Really stimulating - and fun for me too. Oh, and I'm told the little one insisted on taking the book to school next day and showing it to all his playground friends. A hit. I highly recommend it.

A great book for sharing across te generations
I bought this for when my eight year old grand-daughter came to visit. We studied 2-3 pages each evening and found it a fascinating book with so much to look for and compare. A really good introduction to social history.

surprisingly good
Was doubtful that my 6 year old would be interested and it was a struggle to get her to even open it. We skimmed through it one evening together and I was surprised when she asked to look at it again the next night....and the next and for several days. The pictures tell a story with little close ups to explain events. We both learnt a lot and will continue for a while yet.
