I received three of these units (the original and two replacements), and none of them worked. The rotor in all of them was badly out of balance causing the gyroscope to vibrate badly when spun up. The vibration used up the rotational energy so that the worst of the units coasted to a stop in 18 seconds while the best stopped in 52 seconds (the product description quoted times of 9 minutes to coast-down stop) The out-of-balance condition was so bad in all three units that it was plainly visible when you slowly spun the rotor with your fingertips. Other than the balance problem, the units were very nicely made and finished. Amazon was excellent in dealing with the problem and very promptly supplied replacements and finally giving me a refund. I strongly suspect that Amazon got a bad batch of the gyroscopes from the vendor, whose final quality control is highly suspect

bought this for classroom demonstrations.. the term "precision" is s bit misleading... the gyro needs balancing and three axes of rotation are not all smooth.. there should be an instructions manual with it. the main flywheel has a lot of friction in its bearings. but the overall effect is good. better than the earlier one i bought.

Good Idea, poorly executed
Saw this and bought for my 6 year old. Had one as a kid and thought he would enjoy it and learn a little about physics. The materials are pretty good but the base is hollow molded plastic and pretty light weight. The gyro has nylon screw-in bushings on the frame but the machine work overall is pretty crude with rough edges and tool marks, the notches are too narrow for the gyro to fit down properly and will require some file work and it squeals as it turns which should not happen with nylon bushings - even after some oil. Thought it would be high quality but it's just high priced. Would look elsewhere for a really good gyro for this price.

I would give it a negative if that were possible! This cheaply made "precision" gyroscope is worthless for demonstrating to kids how and why gyroscopes really work for so many different scientific engineering applications, mainly because this one really does NOT work! I The anchors for the ends of the vertical points are soft plastic, which allows too much "give" causing vibrations, and the center, also plastic, causes resistance so that it turns much to slowly to do what it's supposed to do. Next time I won't be in so much of a hurry to order. I'll read the reviews!

This Device Fails Thoroughly unless it is used aas a paperweight.
This device is not well engineered. It literally fell apart with the weighted rind falling off of the shaft. In addition the surface friction at the ends of the shaft is too high so that sufficient revolution speeds RPMs cannot be achieved for the device to function as a gyroscope.

HAD GREAT PROMISE AS DEMO UNIT
HAD GREAT PROMISE AS DEMO UNIT. WOULD OF PREFERRED OUT SIDE BEARINGS WERE LOCKED. iT TOOK TWO PEOPLE TO START THE SPIN.
