The reason the wooden one needed replacing is because the head of the icepick is only screwed into the wooden handle and it would never hold position. It's an ice carving knife. It's a knife for cutting garnishes. There's nothing it can't do. This bad boy has held an edge like a champ and hasn't let me down yet. My only complaint, and it's more of a preference, is the unfinished wood handle. As you know, handling ice means water and water is rough on untreated wood. After a while the texture of the handle just became unpleasant. However, the handle never lessened in sturdiness or quality. I lathered it up in some linseed oil and it pretty much resolved the issue.
