The Good: Dave's diet plan does one thing incredibly well ...
Don't let the 4-star review sound overly critical. Buy this book and use it. There is a lot of incredible information in this.I have followed Asprey's advice from his podcasts and other materials, and this book is 100% in line with that. I'm writing this review after having read the book to make certain there was nothing contradicting the "bulletproof diet" plan I was already on. Long story short, it's all here. The Good:Dave's diet plan does one thing incredibly well -- it highlights the critical need for GOOD FATS!!! Good fat like grass-fed butter, ghee, and coconut oil (as well as avocado) is absolutely necessary to good health of the mind and body. The "don't eat" list is pretty standard fare but accurate.Dave also breaks things down into very understandable terms and gives actionable advice. If you read copious amounts of cutting-edge health info, Dave's work is on-target and a much needed contribution. The more this info gets out there, the better. Dave would probably be the first to say he isn't the peddler of anything unique other than perhaps the coffee (I'd heard of using coconut oil in coffee pre-Dave, but not butter), but he's making the information more accessible and deserves to be lauded for that. The Not-so-AwesomeThe diet may be bulletproof, but it isn't a silver bullet (because no such thing exists). I would appreciate a section called "If this diet doesn't work for you, then...". Dave's advice regarding proper fats will correct most hormonal issues long-term, but there will be some people for whom this will not work or who will not have it work as well as it could. Finding a good endocrinologist may be necessary for you if you aren't getting good results. Especially if you are a female -- guys get a genetic leg-up with our hormones, and while it's not fair, if this plan doesn't work for you, it's a pretty good indicator you have something going on with what is to me the most complicated part of human machinery. There's nothing "bad" in here. The book is a great sales funnel for Dave's supplements and coffee, and that is NOT a bad thing. I'm all for cross-marketing. The only "meh" thought I have regarding this is that Dave's prices on the supplements this book will lead you to are a bit steeper than I suspect are necessary. The cost of most of his supplements are prohibitive for guys and gals starting from zero. That said, Dave's work of pointing me in a different direction (especially in light hacking!) has had a very positive effect on my life and health. He's quite deserving of being added to my list of effective biohackers/teachers like Tim Ferriss, David Perlmutter, and William Davis.Action = results, and the actions detailed in this book will have the amazing results advertised for most people.

An engaging book encompassing all of Dave Asprey's Guidelines in One Place + Recipes
I am pretty fond of Dave Asprey's work and have followed him for a couple of years. I have implemented (unknowingly in some instances) many of his principles into my life. I like his products, too, and have bought them on many occasions - they're high quality.I am excited about this book because it finally takes a lot of the information I've read from the author over the years and heard on his podcast... put into one book. I read through the book in a couple of days and highlighted many things. I bought the kindle enabling me to take these tips with me on my phone where ever I am, such as the store to reference for ingredients. It seems he didn't leave much unanswered from a brief discussion on sous vide cooking to the good spices to use (and which ones might be smart to avoid in most cases) to info on the sleep app he likes to a good list of supplements including recommendations on amounts to take. I also liked his brief foodie tips on eating out at restaurants. Good to know I'm not the only one carrying around grassfed butter and sea salt in my purse (ok pretty sure Dave isn't carrying his in a purse, but maybe a backpack?).One of my favorite parts of the book is the chapter on recipes. The first one I made was the No Coffee Vanilla Latte which I thought sounded pretty gross when reading the ingredients... I mean hot water and butter? Wow, it is shockingly yummy. I'm blown away. Needless to say I'm excited to try many of the other recipes and have scheduled to tray about 5 or 6 of them this week alone (tonight I'm making his meatballs, creamed vegetables, and honey mustard dressing). I will report back on them once I do. I'm inspired.Update: I made the Creamed Vegetables tonight using kale plus the Bulletproof Meatballs (I used Ghee vs MCT and I add a teaspoon dried oregano) plus I made the Honey Mustard dressing for the salad --> everything was great! I'm excited to try the other recipes.Update: 12/8/14: Tonight I made the Get Some Ice Cream which was a big hit. Super decadent and creamy chocolate goodness. Easy to make too. I also made the 1-Pot Soup for dinner using spinach and fennel and also homemade bone broth I had. That was good and a fast meal to make. Tomorrow I'm making the Yam (or Sweet Potato?) soup and the next day I'll make the Roast with Brussels Sprouts. I'll report back.Update: 12/11/14: The Sweet Potato Ginger Soup was good, but I added extra sea salt to really bring out the flavors (and more butter). Tonight is the roast that is cooking in my slow cooker. I'll be honest, I've never cooked meat in my slow cooker like this... I'm intrigued.I eat very healthy and mostly bulletproof style with my own twist based on food tolerances but for the past few days I went strict with Bulletproof Plan. What I have noticed is my hunger is so small I'm guessing because I'm so satiated. And, my energy is through the roof, even during a time of month when I should be dog tired. I actually have a hard time going to bed early, like I usually do, because my mind is on fire and I'm energized. So far so good.

This is it, change your life for the better.
How far down the rabbit hole do you wish to go. It seems all aspects of your life can be improved and the book was a little overwhelming at first. But take it a bit at a time and see what works for you and what you have access to. I have lost a stone and a half and feel in complete control of how quickly I want to lose the rest. I have better quality sleep and my life and feeling of well being has improved after a tricky time. This can really change your life for the better. I honestly believe that, It certainly has worked that way for me

Simply life changing!
As a nutritionist and health aficionado, I thought I had a good handle on how to feed my body. Having read this book, I now know I was way off course. Nothing I have read over the last 8 years even comes close to this in terms of the incredibly positive impact it has had on my life. Actually, this book has literally given me my life back. I'm so grateful to Dave! This guy is a genius.

Excellent diet - waffle-full book
It gets to the point - eventually. 90% of the information is irrelevant to the layperson. I want to know what to do and why - in simple terms. I am not interested in detailed analysis of lectins, phytates, oxalates, and mycotoxins.Despite that , the bulletproof diet sounds excellent, and having had a blended coffee and butter drink nearly 3 hours ago, and skipped breakfast, I still feel full and alert, without cravings for fry-ups, curry and alcohol.I really enjoyed my first bulletproof meal yesterday - it felt naughty to use sea salt and butter again, but I felt so satisfied after. The Bulletproof website gives tons of to the point information and is well worth looking at.

Some Interesting Points
I felt this book had some interesting points and liked the fact all the studies are referenced. But I always feel I am being sold something with this author. Starts off interesting but then descends into a pitch for his Bullet Proof Coffee, which isn't necessarily bad. But it isn't an elixir for health, youth and vitality. Also, the book wavers from a longevity and health hack to ultimately a weight loss guide by reducing carbs. Nothing revolutionary.

Maybe buy the Kindle version
I bought the hardbound copy as I thought I would be using it a lot as a reference and might highlight certain bits and make notes in the margin. Unfortunately it's a small book in size with paper that looks and feels like recycled photo copier or fax paper. The text is too small and there is a bizarre choice of black boxes with white fonts for comments that makes it a difficult read. The actual writing could have used a good editor as there's a lot of repeated gossip. It could have been half the size and a lot more straight forward. Maybe he did not write this one?
