This cooks the eggs until the water is gone. So the water determines the amount of time they cook. The water cup on mine has three markings. Soft, Medium and Hard. Soft boiled eggs being the smallest amount of water and the shortest cooking time. Hard boiled is the largest amount of water and the longest cooking time. One hard cooked egg takes just as long to cook as 6 eggs. the amount of water determines the cooking time. **Q: are the plastic parts that come into contact with the eggs BPA free?** A: For those who point out that you don't eat the shell, this cooker also does shell-less eggs (poached, etc) so that's not a valid response. What is valid, though is that BPA-free is misleading--what chemical did they substitute for the BPA? It's commonly BPS, which is a close chemical analog.
