HOW TO GROW ORGANIC CHERRY TOMATOES ON YOUR KITCHEN WINDOWSILL PRODUCT DESCRIPTION This planter is ideal for growing organic vegetables right on your windowsill while controlling the watering so easily a child can do it! All you need to add to your kit is a jam jar to hold the water. WHAT'S IN THE KIT 1. A glass jar filled with a bottom layer of Biochar and topped up with Soil Mix. o What’s Biochar – this is like charcoal but is a soil improver that retains water and provides soil nutrients. It is made by burning wood and other by products slowly at low temperatures with reduced oxygen supply. It has been used in the rain forest for hundreds of years. We get our supply from Cornwall and it is enhanced with organic nutrients and beneficial bacterial cultures. o What’s in the Soil Mix – this is a mixture of high quality sphagnum moss peat with added compost, worm casts and an organic plant booster rich in nitrogen. It also has perlite added (the little white bits) to help areate it. 2. A Blumat automatic watering probe - The Blumat system supplies plants with water directly through porous clay cones. The surrounding soil, when dry, sucks moisture out of the cone. Water then re-fills the cone from the adjacent reservoir (the jam jar). 3. A packet of tomato seeds 4. A packet of two fertiliser sticks - ideal for tomatoes and enriched with seaweed. 5. Full instructions HOW DOES IT SELF-WATERr First, the Blumat is filled with water and sealed. The suction tube must be free of air. As the soil dries, the ceramic cone delivers water gradually into the surrounding earth-thereby creating a vacuum within the cone. This vacuum causes water to be sucked from the nearby container of water (jam jar). This ensures that the right amount of water is supplied to the growing plants. GROWING YOUR OWN VEGETABLES HAS NEVER BEEN SO EASY!
