Excellent. Perfect for sprains. I love it for extra support playing basketball as well.
I originally found out about Bauerfiend when I sprained my knee playing basketball. I was in search of something that would help me return to the court faster, and a couple serious players I knew swore by the quality and effectiveness of the product. Without spending too much time describing that product, let me just say that I eventually purchased a second for my non-injured knee because I loved the compression and relief of swelling. Here is that review: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2PWMS4IO725SK/ref=cm_cr_rdp_permNeedless to say, I love this company. Another five star product.I had always been curious about their other products after trying the knee supports and experiencing great results. They have one for virtually every joint that is prone to sports injury. Their products range from therapeutic to preventative, from minor injury relief to full reconstructive surgery orthopedic treatments. I suggest you take a look at their catalogue online.I have never worn an ankle brace for basketball, but about a month ago I rolled my ankle on a small slick spot on the hardwood caused by sweat, resulting in the most severe sprain I've ever experienced. My ankle was swollen and walking was extremely difficult. To make matters worse, I had a vacation to Disney World planned for that very week, three days later, not exactly the best place to visit if you have difficulty walking around. I remember seeing Bauerfiend had ankle products and immediately had this support overnighted to my house. I remember how awesome the knee support was at completely eliminating swelling and pain, all the while increasing my range of motion. I simply could not wait for it to arrive.Sliding it on was instant relief, though I'm not going to rule out the possibility that some of the relief was psychosomatic at first. The results were physiological and real though. Within an hour, the swelling in my ankle had reduced significantly. The next day at work, I felt no pain! After a full day of wearing it, I took it off upon returning home. The bruising, which had been completely localized right above my ankle bone, had spread, but it was a sign the fluid was now being displaced as well, a good thing. I would post some pictures, but they are not pretty. Simply, my ankle FELT like it was getting better, I didn't have to guess if it was working. The real test was how it performed while walking the parks at Disney World, and the answer: unbelievably well. At the end of the first day of walking (literally ALL day), my injured ankle with the support felt BETTER than my healthy, unsupported ankle. I immediately ordered the product for the other ankle. I will always have these supports with me when I go out of town and plan to do a lot of walking. They are indespensable once you try them. I'm not exaggerating.I was able to return to the basketball court the very night I returned from Disney World, precisely one week after I originally injured it. I now wear supports on both ankles every time I play. A disclaimer: THESE ARE NOT ANKLE BRACES. THEY WILL NOT PREVENT ANKLE INJURIES.The reason I wear them playing basketball now has nothing to do with preventing further injury. It's all about the extra support and cushioning around my ankle. My warm up time doesn't have to be as long with these on, my ankles feel great right at the start. I feel like I have a little extra bounce in my step, a HUGE advantage when it comes to playing the game of basketball. That effect is probably a combination of the support (which helps me to feel more confident in my moves) and the proprioception this support provides (I know where my ankles are in space). My footwork is improving as a result. Wearing these with basketball shoes will require you to really loosen and retighten the laces, because the fit will certainly be affected by wearing a sleeve like this. But I love the way my basketball shoes fit now, very secure, excellent lock down, just all around more comfortable. That was the least expected and most appreciated result of wearing these supports. I have always had issues with circulation in my foot while playing because I love a tight, secure feeling, but I could never find the balance between tight and too tight. This support has solved that.Feel free to ask any questions you have. I love this product, and I highly recommend it.

Great, high quality brace but...
This is a nice quality, well made brace and I feel like my ankle is very secure when I'm wearing it. I rolled my ankle and broke the fibula last December and am terrified of rolling it again. Fits nicely around the ankle itself and the inserts are very comfortable. No problem wearing this with sneakers, lace up boots, etc.My complaint is that I ordered the correct size for my ankle measurement, and it fits great above and at the ankle, but the part around the sole is too loose. I can't believe that women and men have the same size on that part of the foot even if the ankle measurement is correct. If it was more snug I would have rated this 5 stars.

Does the Job
I wore the Baurfeind Malleo ankle support for three weeks after coming out of an air cast. I'm finally recovered from a bad peroneal tendon sprain. I'm a runner. I wore this ankle support during those first weeks back on the treadmill and on the road. Thanks to the Amazon reviews; I feel like I made the best choice. This ankle support is made of excellent material. It is very fine quality. It's beautifully woven. Stands up to washing. It ended up in the dryer, still came out fine. (I don't suggest putting it in the dryer) Overall, I'm impressed. The gel fit right around my peroneal tendon. It protected it in a way that allowed me to wear my sneakers/shoes without aggravating the tendon. The compression was just right. It wasn't too tight. The top of my ankle measures just under 8.5, so I ordered the III. They were out of the black, so I got the blue colored featured. I would have preferred the low-key black, however the blue is muted enough.

This ankle support is very comfortable and the best I have ever tried
This ankle support is very comfortable and the best I have ever tried. However, the two I have purchased so far seem to fall apart quite easily, after around 6 or 8 weeks (see attached picture).

Awesome, but pricey w/ durability issues
This is the best ankle brace for me to run in (about 6-10 miles a day) so I'm giving it five stars. They are easy to put on, very comfortable, and support my slightly weak ankle. But they only last 3-4 months for me and they are very expensive. My dad, who doesn't run, wore one everyday, all day for about 4 months before it wore out too.

DEFINITELY RECOMMENS!
I have peroneal tendonitis and my doctor recommended this ankle brace for me. It puts compression on the peroneal tendons which minimizes the pain. It decreases the amount of pain I feel and is great for sports like tennis, softball, and soccer.

Fantastic, comfortable ankle support
I've recently discovered that I have issues with joint hypermobility, and it was recommended that I get extra joint support. My ankle has been bothering me a lot, so after doing a lot of research, I decided to purchase this ankle support. I've been wearing a crappy Ace bandage that's been cutting into my foot, so I tried this on as soon as I got it in the mail yesterday. It's AMAZING. Super comfortable, doesn't cut into my feet at all, and I love the extra padding around the bone. My ankle feels safe and more stable than it has in a long time. I'm purchasing other joint support products from this brand. They are so expensive, but completely worth it.
