Great Book
I bought this book, because my husbands parents are British and I wanted to give my 8 year old more info on where he's from. This book highlights landmarks and historical places in Britain, but in a glossy, fun fact, kid filled kind of way. He was so excited to share some of what he was learning with me and I was impressed with the graphics and pictures and colors in the book.

I can't tell you...it's not for parents!
Reviewed by Avery, age 9, for City Book ReviewI'm not even sure where to start with this book because it was so awesome and now I want to read the rest! The cover is a bright lime green covered with all of these really neat drawing and a giant magnifying glass in the middle. When you open the book you see the cover folds in, my mom says they are called French flaps, and they tell you all about the book and the other books in the series."About Harry Potter...The finished book was rejected eight times before finally being published in 1997."You should start with the index because this book has everything and in no real order. The first thing posted is a map of Great Britain, which tells you where Great Britain is.Did you know Scotland Yard is not even in Scotland? Neither did I and it was only one of the hundreds of cool facts I did learn while reading this book.It really is a very exciting book and even though it says "Not for Parent's" they need to read this book too. I bet they will be shocked with all of the new stuff they learn.*This book was provided in exchange for an honest review**You can view the original review at City Book Review

I don't trust the research
Note: I have not purchased or read, but am reacting to one of the "look inside" pages about strange laws. I checked a couple of them and, as expected, they turned out to be myths (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-17610820). I would not enjoy explaining to my son why the book I bought is sloppy nonsense -- honestly, it would have taken the authors ten minutes to fact check. Makes one wonder how many more of the "amazing facts" are nonsense...

lots of historical facts, not a family travel guide book... whoops
lonely planet was my go-to in my back-packing years. These days i use the internet for my travel research. In planning a month holiday in Scotland (mainly) I was hoping to engage my kids in the process of travel research. I thought this would be like a family guide to travel. To be fair, it says right on the cover "everything you ever wanted to know" and in that it delivers. It is pages of facts about the UK, some too dreary to share with a toddler. I accept that it was my expectation that was at fault, not the book itself.

Great for teaching kids about Great Britain
Interesting facts and details about Great Britain. Good pictures and easy to flick through and get snippets of information too.
