Essentiel drums book !...
I love Peter Erskine, his music, his playing, his versatility, his taste, his sound ... This book is marvelous, plenty of good and simples patterns, easy to practice and it works well on the drumset, you can trust the Great Peter ! The book is mainly about the fills : Questions, answers, thoughts, feel with exercices in triplets, swing, eighth notes, sixteenths notes and beyong, it is really a pleasure to practice them ! The second part of the book is dedicated for tunes with transcriptions like : "Sing, Sing, Sing" ( Rich vs. Roach ) - "Boogie Shuttle Stop" ( Erskine/Pasqua/Carpenter : Badlands ) - "Rhythm Method" ( Wayne Bergeron's Big Band ) - "Waltz of the Flowers" ( Wayne Bergeron's Big band ) - At the end of the book, some Advanced Fill Concepts like : "Daddy, What is God's Last Name ?" ( Erskine/Pasqua/Carpenter : Badlands ) - "Worth The Wait" ( Tim Hagans and the Norrbotten's Big Band ) - Four famous fills : Shadow Wilson, Buddy Rich, Tony Williams, a "Motown" drum fill. I really enjoy this book and for his price it is worth to buy it ! As Peter says : Fills + Fills + Fills ... = A solo ! And not to forget that Music is the best teacher, so listening is the best way to learn ! Emilio L. ( Dordogne, France ).

Could have easily been better
Most drum books don't have enough drum transcription and too much verbiage. This is the reverse. He has you going "ching ching a ching" for a measure followed by a one measure fill. OK. But at a certain tempo the last "a" on the "ching a" starting on the four on the ride is going to make it awfully hard to start the fill on the right hand on the snare. More verbal instruction needed. Erskine is the pro. Please tell me when, through what range, in your estimation, is it cool to just hit the four on cymbal and not the last "4 ching a?" And there is nothing about sticking. I know, "create your own," "try it all sorts of ways." Fair enough. Having said that, generally there is going to be one, perhaps two, stickings that will lay smoother than others, just like certain fingerings for piano are going to make the passage smoother. But nothing there.

Locked in, and looking for a ton of material to work on? This is it!
This is a powerhouse of fresh vocabulary to work on, with quality playing examples. If you're looking to freshen up your vocab with some great ideas, this is your book.Or, if you're just getting into jazz and want a comprehensive source of fill and solo material , again, this is a great one to work from.

excellent primer on fills from a master drummer
Other books have done this in different ways; I think Peter has written this in a manner that's is easier for many, myself included, trying to find new ways to be different. It's fairly dense, too, so there is a lot of material to digest.

It's awesome. At first I was confused how the disc went together but I figured it out. Only thing I didn't care for was the huge box they shipped it in haha a music book def did not need that huge of a box. Other than that. This is excellent ❤

Peter Erskine does it again!
As with all Mr Erskine's educational material they are comprehensive, easy to understand and will help any aspiring musician/drummer. Essential Drum Fill is no different! It contains plenty to work on and make you think musically. Great book!

It's OK
This book is just OK in my opinion. The book is kind of boring and it didn't offer much that another book hasn't already done better. A lot of the content is the same exercises rewritten to end on different beats, which is a good idea but not worth filling up a book.
