They should be functional.This is not functional.I used this once and it rang and the next time I went to queue it up ( 1 hr later) it wouldn’t ring.It’s got a good weight to it. Attractive design. But none of that means squat when the timer doesn’t actually alert you to it being done.To be clear, I didn’t drop it, misuse or mishandle it. I was using it at my desk to do Pomodoro time management. How can this thing possibly be used in a kitchen (much harsher environment) when I won’t function at a desk?!Ridiculous.Edit: I disassembled it and it’s made of soft (aluminum?) metal and plastic. The single thing driving the entire mechanism is a 1/4” wide 1/8th a millimeter thick piece of sheet metal. No wonder it won’t ring. The PoC “spring” has no “memory” and thus will not recoil or spring back providing the force needed to drive the entire unit. Also all the gears are plastic, any amount of force on them disintegrates the teeth of the gears and renders them useless. Absolute garbage. However, like some of the other reviewers, I wish the alarm was louder. I bought two of them and one alarm is louder than the other.
