The Pedro Almodóvar Archives Hardcover – November 13, 2017

This is an amazing book, but in order to justify the purchase, you need to be a hard-core Almodovar fan. This is less about the cost than the size, quality and content of the book. It is quite large, which means it won't fit with your other books on a shelf. It will even take up a lot of room on a coffee table. It is also quite heavy, as the cover and paper stock is top quality.That stated, I love this book. In essence, you have several chapters which are devoted to most of the movies Almodovar directed. Each chapter has beautiful pictures from each movie, some which take up all or most of the page.This book is more of a biography of Almodovar's movies, as opposed to the man himself. While Almodovar provides commentary throughout the book, the primary emphasis is on the product, not the director.Each chapter begins with a brief overview about the storyline of the movie. It then includes commentary from Almodovar and/or the actors/actresses, where they expand on their role or what went into filming certain scenes.Throughout the book, there are photos of scenes which weren't included in some of the movies.If someone hasn't seen any of the Almodovar movies, they'll still appreciate this book, as the layout and photos are great. But it helps if you have seen some of the movies, as it gives you something to relate to. Fortunately, I've seen most of the movies in this book, but some have not been produced in a format that is compatible with DVD players in the U.S.Anyhow, I love most of the Almodovar movies I have seen and this book helps to round-out my perspective on what was involved in producing each film.

Beautiful book. I love Almodóvar's films so this was an easy buy. Not sure how different it is from the original Taschen printing that was going for $200 (other than maybe Almodóvar's signature and a film cell), but this edition is lovely and at a good price. Informative and funny and a great resource for filmmakers to dig into the mind of one of the greats. The only negative I guess would be that the book weighs a ton. It's hard/cumbersome to read in bed but it feels solid and would be a fantastic coffee table and/or conversation starter book (besides being a great read).

It was a gift , my friend loved it . Beautiful, heavy , the pictures are amazing , very reflective of pedro almodovar's work .

Fantastic book. Highly informative. Will make a great coffee table book at any Almodovar's fan home.Very heavy and quite large when opened, so would not be suitable for reading it in bed.

Excellent over view, beautifully laid out of Spain's best film artist since Bunuel. Some may quibble over printing limitations seen in a text like this which is uniquely over sized but I would rather say thanks to Benedikt Taschen for producing such incredible books on so many eclectic and interesting subjects in such a loving and artisic way.

Haven’t read it yet, but I am sure it is going to be a rich illustration source.
