WHAT A TOOL.....this is the way MAKITA used to make all....
their tools! Needless to say there is a simple explanation: "Made in Japan!" Yep, you heard it right! AND it is so obvious by the fit and finish of the entire drill. Balance, grip, power, ease and functionality of use...WOW! I am a retired, licensed, mechanical engineer with an appreciation of quality control and this gents (and ladies,.. if a pro po)....is the real deal and NOT some cheapie "celestial kingdom flotsam!" But, the world is a market economy and one does really get what one pays for! If you don't mind the cord,...go for it! I actually bought this to use as a portable "mixer" for some extremely thick & viscous silicone roof coating and NOT wanting to spring for a "specialzed" paint mixing tool; I bought a heavy duty paint paddle type extension (which was a half inch diameter shaft) and this drill. I am almost ashamed to say that i had bought the Makita drill SOLELY for this one time use with the intent of sending it back but after using it for not only my initial intended purpose, I drilled some holes through some tough concrete block that "sneered" at my other 1/2 chucked Chi-Makita, portable drills and I was SOLD! I kept the drill and even with the inconvenience of the "umbilical" I reach for this superbly made drill whenever a tough job makes itself known! I've even had 1 or 2 of my DIY friends ask for a loan of it (kills me to lend it out) BUT after pride of ownership gets the better of me....I can't refuse. Hey folks,...I spend a small fortune in time, effort, and moola on stuff that I buy and use here on amamzon so, IF this review was HELPFUL...well, you know what to do! Many thanks!

Heavy weight and heavy duty
I just got it in the mail. It feels very much like my 30 year old Milwaukee 1/2” hole shooter. They even sound alike. High torque and very smooth gearing. I put it to use right away and like the high torque. The 700 rpm is perfect for drilling steel. It is very top heavy and the second handle is a must for me. The keyed chuck seems to be of high quality. I’m debating if I should put a keyless chuck on it for convenience. I have many - about 10 - drills (old Milwaukee, hilti and makita), both corded and cordless but found myself reaching for the corded ones more often. The limited life span of the batteries is a drag. Also the corded ones seem more powerful. My one small complaint is the plastic retractable belt clip - it is flimsy and useless. I prefer the older version with a steel clip. This makita is no made in china trash

Disappointed initially. Works well now.
I bought this for heavy duty applications. When i today used it the first time drilling a 1/2" hole into 1/8" steel it gave an unhealthy cracking noise inside the machine, when the drill broke through at the bottom of the hole, and since then there is a funny unclean noise in the gears even when it idles. Very disappointed. The return window closed 2 days ago. Update: Today i drilled holes with a 6" hole saw into 1 1/2" solid wood. Lots of power and the machine did not overheat too badly. Updated from 2 to 5 stars.

Outstanding Drill With One Exception
Powerfull DP4002 drill, with excellent trigger control of rpms. But the trigger-lock switch (sliding-type ) is an ergonomic failure in location and design. Not only is locking the trigger a clumsy two-handed operation, but access to the trigger lock switch is blocked by the operators hand when gripping the tool.

Good speed control!
Easy to maintain the speed you want and won't get hot like other drills I have, i drilled 1/2 in. Holes on 1/2 in. Mild steel and was very impressed how it handle..

20年くらいこのドリルを使ってきました。本来の用途である穴開けではなく、ヘビーdutyな攪拌作業に使って 来ました。ヘビーな作業でも故障せずに長持ちします。とても良い商品デス。
