This is one of the BEST Reece books yet. I love her LCR series, but this is a standout favorite of the series.SYNOPSIS NO SPOILERS:Secret Agents marry. The wife leave the secret ops world, and joins LCR in order to save people, and her sanity in the process. Hubby gets snatched. The bad guys set it up to look like he was killed. He is tortured, and about a year later rescued. He has been brainwashed to believe his wife set up his kidnaping. Fueled by a need for revenge, hubby kidnaps his own wife and threatens her life. She is overjoyed and astonished to find out he is alive, BUT disillusioned and heartbroken to know he hates her and blames her for his months of torture.The rest of the book is about hunting down the evil people, and the married secret agents sparring and slowly reconciling. The man says he’s just a shell of a man, and claims he’s ‘running on empty’ (the title), and has nothing left for her. The woman is stubborn and continues to focus her love on a spouse that despises her and wishes her dead.WHAT I LIKE:This is a fast paced suspense romance that doesn’t slack off. It doesn’t have much of gooey, relationship stuff without some bullets flying, so I’d give it 10 stars if I could.I like the characters. Good and bad, emotional, hurting, honorable, they have all the ‘right stuff’.The best part is that this is part of a series. If you haven’t read the LCR series yet, you will LOVE them. They can all be read as a stand alone, or even out of order.I MET THE AUTHOR:I met the author at Lori Foster’s Reader Get Together a year or two ago. She is AMAZING! This is this little unpretentious gal that looks like she is a school teacher She was so humble and kind. I was bowled over in amazement that one of my favorite authors was waiting in line next to me to meet some other big authors. Needless to say, I got her autograph and probably made a fool out of myself bumbling around, humiliated that I didn’t have any of her books with me for her to sign. I have ALL of her books, but I didn’t see her name on the author list, so I didn’t bring any with me. This is one author that is a true artist. Her books are edgy, clever, original and entertaining, and I put them on my very limited coveted “To be Read Again” book shelf.

When I started reading “Running on Empty,” I didn’t know what to expect as Reece’s current book is my first exposure to her writing. This book is the tenth book in the “Last Chance Rescue” series. The suspense, intrigue, and mystery will captivate the reader from the very first paragraph. I found the story line well-developed and Reece provides all the history of the organization “Last Chance Rescue” and its founder, Noah McCall.Reece introduces her two protagonists, Sabrina Fox, an LCR Elite operative and Declan Steele, an Eagles Defense Justice Enforcers’ operative. The LCR Elite’s mission is to rescue victims from places all over the globe and the Eagles Defense Justice Enforcers’ mission is to deliver justice to evil antagonists throughout the world. Events affecting both Sabrina and Declan explode the lives of these two operatives and everyone around them. While both Sabrina and Declan are well trained and have years of experience, neither of them are prepared for the turn of events and the circumstances they find themselves. In the middle of all the thrilling adventures taking place, I found an ongoing love story between Sabrina and Declan. Sabrina and Declan face challenges to their faith in each other and their ability to trust those around them.From the beginning evil forces are in play and Reece provides the suspense, mystery, and intrigue to keep readers guessing as to what will happen next. Reece is an extraordinary story teller, who is able to weave kidnapping, terrorism, betrayal, drugs, human trafficking, romance and love into a fast moving thriller pitting evil against good. Reece shows her ability to write a creative love story grasping the hearts of her readers. With each twist and turn she increases the intensity of events and circumstances. Reece’s readers experience strong emotions with the awareness that is evil lurking in plain sight, yet so well camouflaged her readers are unaware of who the enemy is and how to stop them. “Running on Empty” is a spine tingling, breath taking story attacking emotion in a realistic way.Christy Reece delivers a well written story full of surprises whose characters constantly finding roadblocks and keeps her readers unaware of who is behind all the betrayal and uncertainty. With Reece making unpredictable direction changes she keeps the reader on the edge of their seats and they will not be able to guess the ending until Reece is ready for them to know. I recommend “Running on Empty” and Christy Reece has earned my 5 star

When I started reading this, my heart sank as it was quite unsophisticated in setting the scene, a sort of the sky is blue and the man wore red type of writing. I nearly stopped reading it but decided to persevere and I’m so glad I did.It suddenly took off and it became a rather good thriller with some romance thrown in. I enjoyed it. There are rather a few alphabet agencies involved but the main one is LCR where our heroine works after leaving another where her husband still works.Her life is thrown into a spiral when she sees Declan blown up as she goes to meet him. She’s devastated and then the mystery begins.After that beginning it’s written really well and the characters are well rounded and developed with the inevitable change coming through (a number of them actually). Good plot line too with a twist I didn’t see coming.It ends up been a great start to a series although this was a free book, the rest look rather expensive so it’ll be a while before I finish them.I am though, looking forward to the rest.

I absolutely loved this action packed romantic suspense. The characters were engaging and the plot kept me guessing as to the bad guys for a long time.I found Declan and Sabrina's love story heartbreaking especially the torture scenes which are certainly not for the faint hearted.Betrayal is at the heart of the story. But the question all the way through is who betrayed who and can love really survive in such circumstances. The answer is yes, of course but Christy takes the reader on one hell of a ride before our heroes get their HEA

Declan and Sabrina may be in love but they both lead double lives, when one of their own turns on them their lives are blown apart. Joining them whilst they recover from the torture and their injuries is hard enough but learning to trust again after a betrayal that deep is a long and painful process. Can they trust their instincts? Can they trust each other? Can they trust any of those they work with? And can they ever trust the love they once had?Hard hitting, fast moving, full of action this story keeps the pages turning and keeps you guessing. Numerous twists have you doubting their choices and who they trust but when they finally discover who the traitor is will this be the biggest blow of all? I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series and the LCR series too- i think that series may come first in the timeline, so i am going to back-track before continuing with this series.

But seeing every kill take a little more of her soul he pushed her to leave.LCR is a Last Chance Rescue agency led by Noah McCall. They have little or no contact with authorities but covertly get the job done. Sabrina Fox is one of his best operatives and becomes one of his elite when he moves HQ to Virginia and her husband is killed.This is a fast paced, action packed romantic suspense with a kick ass heroine. There's lies, deceit and whole twists of betrayal. A hard storyline of pain, suffering, torture, abuse and violence. Child trafficking, but not detailed. A few well written sex scenes but very little bad language. Overall some interesting characters for future books. I got stuck in and was thoroughly immersed in the no nonsense storyline. However, I was frustrated at times with the male leads demeanor/character. His 'hot and cold' got a little old and maddening. And the 'Who? What? and Why?' took its time to develop. Overall though, a very good read, would recommend. 3.5*.

There are many things I like about this book but also there are many that I really hate , and I rather won't check other books from this serie .Idea of this story was quite good but unfortunately it became overcomplicated and totally lost its charm for me . Especially annoying was Declan and his indecision about his feelings for Sabrina . The guy who survived insane torture and couldn't get his mind if he want to be her husband or not , playing with her like teenage boy . Lame .The end , when we knew who was the traitor , was disappointment .Well , not a bad book , but there are way better books to "waste" your time
