Fantastic if your CD player is straight, terrible if it's curved.
We purchased two of these, so the three stars are really an average of mine and my husband's experience. He drives a Tundra truck. He put the holder into the CD player and it worked like a charm, hanging onto his iPhone like a champ. He couldn't be happier with it.I drive a sports car. I installed mine in my CD player and it never felt secure. When I go over bumps or around corners, it falls out. We finally figured out that it's because the opening of the CD player is slightly curved instead of straight across. There's nothing there for the edges of the phone holder to grab. It's still better than the suction cup holder that won't stick to my slightly pebbled dashboard. I just have to hold it in when I go over bumps or around corners. So in short:5 stars for a CD player with a straight across opening.1 star for a CD player with a curved opening.

So far it is good. It did fall out of the slot once ...
So far it is good. It did fall out of the slot once when I accidentally hit it with my arm reaching for a radio control. I tightened the screw and it hasn't fallen out again. Also, once the right grip arm seemed to be skip gears so that it did not retract as far as the left arm. I used a little force to it to pop out to full extension and now it seems to be working properly again. I hope that I didn't do anything that is going to shorten it's useful life. It does hold my Droid Turpo with a Dztronic TPU case very well. I expect that it will do the same for most phones in or out of a case.

The only good part is the flip out tray
The only good part about this stand is the flip out shelf that keeps phones from sliding down between the two sides. The unit looks like it's made from a cheaper type of plastic. Has a feel that it'll crack to easily. The method this unit uses to stay in the CD slot is a vertical movement. The thumb screw pushes the middle two tabs in the opposite direction of the two outer tabs while in the CD slot. Problem is that it doesn't yield to a snug fit. As soon as I put my iPhone 6+, the stand slides out about 1/8 inch. The stand still stays in the CD slot but bounces during normal driving. The unit didn't come with instructions, even though instructions aren't needed to assemble product.I'm going to look for units that incorporate a horizontal spread rather than a vertical spread that this unit uses.

Depends on type of car and where the CD slot is. Fine in my Camry.
It works great. I would give it 5 stars if I could play my CDs while in use. Sits well in my Camry CD, and I have access to all the radio and air controls. Tried to use it in a Malibu rental car, and the air and radio controls were in the way, so I was unable to use it in that car's CD slot. It will depend on what car you have if you can use it in the CD slot.

Much better than "stickies"
I'm impressed with this little gadget. HTC One (M8), has never fallen out and as long as there is no CD in the player, it mounts very sturdy-like. The only downside is the mechanism for adjusting the grips feels like it's just going to break, probably shatter. The rest of the device is solid feeling, but as soon as I go to adjust it I feel like I'm trying to thread a needle with a rope. Don't get me wrong, it hasn't broken yet and is serving me well. You just can't use the CD player while it's installed, which isn't a problem for most people anyway. When it inevitably breaks, I'll be buying another one from The Grip King.

So-so
Not keen on how it fits into the CD slot. Probably my technical skills, but I just didn't feel that it was all that secure. (I prefer the one that attaches to the vent) And on long trips I do use my CD player for audio books, so I had to stash this one away as a backup.

Love my Grip King phone holder!
I love my car phone holder. I'm kind of short so I could never reach my phone when it was in a holder that attaches to the windshield. I can reach this one with no problem at all. The only thing I don't like is I can't see the display on my stereo. I have to make sure it's on what I want it on before I put my phone in the holder.

Not for phones that weigh much
Initially this was working well, but I guess the iPhone 6+ was too much for it. Today it just snapped where the pieces connect. Past the return window, so I guess I can say I got 2 months out of it. Won't be recommending it.
