A Really Fun Album and a Surprise Find
I saw this band as a warmup for The Head and the Heart in a concert in SLC last year (in 2012). I was impressed by some of their early-Elton-like numbers with piano and vocals, and they veered off in other directions some of the time as well. In any event I was intrigued and decided to check out this, their most successful album - a relative statement considering they are not too well-known...yet. Anyway, I love it! They are a mixed bag of every 60s and 70s influence imaginable, from the Beatles to Lynrd Skynrd (sp?) and the Allman Brothers - one song even hints at disco! There is even a shout-out to Elton's Country Comfort. Through it all, they forge a sound that is uniquely their own. And, the title song is a bonafide "hit"...I've heard it on airport muzak in Seattle! Check 'em out.PS I've since bought most of their catalog!

Refreshing
I picked this up after reading a positive review of one of their live shows. Had no idea what to expect other than it was an "Indie" disc and there was a good chance i might not like it. I was very, very wrong about that. The bottom line is that Blitzen Trapper is heck of alot of fun. I would describe this album as a wonderful collage of pop influence, mainly 60's and 70's work of artists such as Bob Dylan, The Beatles and a heavy dose of Neil Young. There are dozens of other influences that tend to bubble through the surface while listening to this disc - but i wont get into that because identifying them is great fun. This music, while relying heavily on it's forfather's, sounds quite fresh and underivative. The tracks are mostly short, 2-3 minutes each which would seem to pose a problem for the continuity, but doesn't - these songs flow together wonderfully making a listen of the entire album a must on most occasions. The best part is these guys musicianship is top notch, something I feel is lacking with alot of the indie-rock outfits. Great sense of melody, substantive songwriting and ultimately the ablity to take this method of revisiting the classic era and make it work. No cliche sound, no copy-cat hooks, just good music that will have you singing along in no time.

Gem of a record
Hesitantly, this is the first music review I've added to Amazon... But Furr is just SO great, I want everyone to buy it, to support this incredible band. I don't really go for much of Wild Mtn Nation but do also love (much of) Field Rexx. The band may evoke elements of earlier musical eras, but at the same time it sounds totally modern, whatever that means (even when they throw in a pedal steel) and completely their own. Timeless. This is always a dubious exercise, but oh well: For fans of Wilco, Band of Horses, the Shins (who are also utterly their own), Beck, Kinks, Honeydogs, Beatles, Pushstars, Iain Matthews, Jayhawks, Damnwells, Gomez... oh enough already. Just buy the album; if you're here to check it out, it's hard to imagine you wouldn't love it. I mean really love it.

Love U
Some great songs on this CD. Sounds like a band straight out of the late 60's early 70's. My favorite is "Sleepytime in the Western World". One listen to that song and it's stuck in my head for the rest of the day. So glad I found out about this album!

Glad I went
Never herd of them. Happened to go to one of their concerts and really had a good time. Bought this CD and listened to it a few times. This is my favorite CD now. Their lyrics are odd and ambiguous at times, but the sound is always great and sometimes reminds me of various "Supergroups" of the late 60's and 70's.

A great, great record...
A friend included track one from this CD on a compilation they made for me at Christmas. Intrigued, I searched out the album. It's not exactly more of the same, but it's just full of interesting and often great tunes. It's quite a varied album, veering from screamy rock to sublime acoustic stuff such as 'lady on the water' and 'furr'.I would urge anyone and everyone to give this record a listen. It's truly excellent, I bought copies for three of my friends as presents... they all agreed, it's a grower and real treasure, with both immediate pleasures like Gold For Bread, and other stuff that just creeps up on you after about a hundred plays, and then you realise the gorgeous genius of it.Utterly majestic.

Wrong cd
Hello, I ordered the "deluxe" version, but I received the old version, which I already have in the shelf. Disappointed.

Blitzen Trapper Furr CD
I bought this CD on the strength of hearing one track but I'm sure the rest will become favourites too after a few more "listenings".

Great Ablum
This album is great, and also sounds great! What I was most impressed with was that the LP came in a plastic inner sleeve, meaning there was absolutely ZERO debris on the surface of the record... usually brand new records come in paper sleeves, and have significant paper debris on the surface... this was a very welcome surprise!
